I saw at Ted Jannetty`s website. He has a new "header" type exhaust manifold. This looks interesting. Adding free flowing headers on a gasser is good for a 30HP increase.

i actually fondled that manifold , it is a sweet piece but i have no idea how much it cost , but i WILL have one on my RAM #ad

Check out the "Second Time Around" article starting on page 48 of TDR issue 25. A Banks PowerPack kit was installed on Scott Dalgleish's '98 12v Ram. Test results were very favorable.

I have driven several PowerPack equipped Rams as well as one with the Stinger Plus kit installed. Both Rams performed very well however, the PowerPack kit produces more horsepower and torque. If I had a 12v I would definitely go with the PowerPack kit! In addition to the Twin Ram intake manifold, the PowerPack kit also includes a "hotter" cam plate.

If you live in the Western WA. area, The PowerShop in Enumclaw, WA. will let you test drive "their" '96 2500 CC 4x4 with the Banks PowerPack kit installed. The PowerShop can be reached at: 1-800-835-8839 or at www.thepowershop.com

hey, the top of the intake is nothing but a flat steel plate for goodness sake! How hard could it possibly be to make your own manifold using exhaust tubing??? I WILL find out!

I'm not sure it's worth all the trouble. I have the hole shabang from banks. It runs very good compared to stock but my pyro temp hits 1350 no problem (trailer in tow). There are alot of diffrent opinions on the twin ram manifold some say it hurts, due to now spreading the intake more evenly. Sounds funny but if I am correct Cummins put the intake towards the front to help #1 cylinder because the port takes a turn around a head stud. On the other hand it's hard to beleave Banks (a reputable company in my mind) put all this research into a product just to sell us Ramheads something new. But I could be wrong. I must admit I am still researching a way to lower egt's and get MORE POWER!! I'm sure I will with some help from my fellow Ramheads and more money.

FYI... . that new header-style exhaust manifold looks pretty hot, but runs a cool $500 from JRE... (sorry for the bad pun, but i couldn't help myself!)

Ted, any idea how much performance bang to be had with this exhaust manifold???

I'm glad John put in his post. As I was reading this, I was thinking of Scott Dalgleish's article. There is a chart in that article showing the difference in EGT's with and without the Twin Ram. Banks had a test exhaust manifold with pyrometer probes at each exhaust ports. I don't have the article right in front of me, and at this time of the night, I'm not going to go digging for it, but I remember that the chart plainly showed that the difference between the hottest and coolest cylinder was greatly reduced with the Twin Ram compared to the stock intake. ALSO, with the Twin Ram, all 6 cylinders had lower EGT's. Scott told me that the Twin-Ram itself does not make more power, but it greatly helps in evening out the combustion temperatures, meaning that each cylinder is working just as hard as the others. Besides that, it reduces overall EGT's. Read the article. Someday, I would like to put one on my truck, but I just can't justify the cost right now. #ad

Do a search or check the archives, I know there was a pretty good post with lots of good opinions and information on this same subject a few months ago. I copied the numbers off that chart and posted them in that thread.
Andy

Andy is right that is exactly what the Twin Ram is supposed to do and who am I to second guess Banks. My post was only to pass on info I had herd from other vendors. Never the less my EGT still runs high even with the Twin Ram. Banks says to run it at 1300 all day and don't worry about it so far no problems. I have run it at 1300 for a half hour at a time.

It looks good anyway. I would need to reread the article but my recollection is the evening of temps was marginal. The egt problem which many folks are not afflicted with could be dealt with for less money and more affectively via a turbo housing. The twin ram seams to be a naturally aspirated thinking process misapplied to our 30 psi charged intake systems IMHO. This is like the effect of headers on our engines, nonexistent from what I've seen.

Man is this thing really 500 bucks, I want one but not that bad. Whats it supposed to be worth on the dyno? How much is the 400hp cam plate? How can this cam plate make 400 when the tst #10 essentially takes the plate out of the equation and makes between 370 and 390hp at the rear tires, or at least those are the numbers I've seen posted. Thanks for the input. Adam

I have had the twinram about a year and it doesn't make hp but it does seem to free up the power from 1800 -2800 rpm, with #10 plate
and larger injectors the egt's can go to 1500 degrees very fast got to watch the gauge at high rpm events like "power stroke lunches"next move to free up the exhaust tract.

Well, since I have had only one diesel I am not even sure if it does what is says, but the powerpack has been a great addition to my truck. THe average load I tow is about 16000 lbs. I also have and auto with 4. 10's and 35's. I have never been able to get it over 1300, unless I am lugging the engine. Usually in direct drive I can pull 6-7% grades at about 55-60 mph. I have tried, in certain situations, to put it high in the 1300's but can't get it there. (wanted to know in case there was a nother driver).

Bpine, I know banks says all day long at 1300, but the way temps can fluctuate, should you drop a gear and lower the temp? What if you blew a intercooler hose?

Anyhow, I love it. HVAC can keep his marginal gains. Where the hell did he get 966 posts anyhow? What a TDR addict? Isn't the sun shining in the Bay area. Go for a drive would ya. #ad

I'm with Wade! "Marginal", BS MARGINAL! HVAC, maybe you should verify your data prior to posting crap that doesn't agree with your methods of uprating hp. and torque. The temperature spread between cylinders was quantified as Andy stated with the use of the Banks twin ram intake. The min. /max. temperature spread was tightened considerably!

Differing viewpoints on power enhancements are always welcome however, when ones judgment gets clouded to the point of vocalizing negative opinions about other manufacturers methods to achieve results (known or unknown to you), due to financial interest/alliance with an opposing manufacturer, that is NOT constructive feedback to the membership.

WWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW!! BABY!

Let's not get really riled up here. (ususally I start the fights anyhow).

But, John, I think what HVAC is trying to say, is that the manifold is banging the door on the House that holds the "Law of diminishing Returns" (also known as the shed where "BAng for your Buck" hangs around). Anyhow, it is probably not worth the money on a standard across the board. Now we all have heard the guys that are taking stock rigs and throwing a Scotty K&N in and raving about the sore back they have from the seat. But we really know this isn't true.
But, the Scotty, in combination with other items, TST plate, Horton cluytch fan, Bigger/smaller turbo, BANKS Twin Ram, etc, all are adding there small part into the greater equation from stock. You have to remeber, once you make the ultimate power upgrade of more fuel, these fluff items are never going to give you the same rush. They will maybe add just a little more, that seperate on a stock engine, won't make a difference, but part of the bigger equation will.

Spend your money the way you will. Actually, I liked the looks of the Intake also. Why would you buy the chrome kit fome cummins??? It doens't get you anything except looks. No performance, then why would someone spend the money.

I guess what I'm saying is enjoy your truck. I really am, but since I have done just about everything to mine, I have decided that the wave of the new millenium in truck accessories is going to be curb feelers and dingle balls. Group purchase anyone #ad

I asked the guys at a diesel shop in town about this intake and they said that pressure is pressure and the flow is the same in a pressurized chamber. Made sense to me.
