I haven't heard much media coverage in recent months regarding plans to rebuild the WTC complex other than the disappointing "Freedom Tower" plans that were unveiled a while back. I have been wondering if there were any more developments or how likely this design would be implemented.

Then I was listening to Glenn Beck the other morning and the subject was the Trade Center and he was urging listeners to check out www.makenynyagain.com . . . so I went there and was very pleased at what I found. Go take a look. Apparently the "Freedom Tower" idea has been lukewarm at best and interest groups are pushing for something much closer to the original which would be far more useful (110 stories with an ACRE of floor space each, not a pathetic 72 with a few hundred square feet at the top) and stand in bold defiance of Bin Laden. IMO the Twin Towers were unique in that they had far more floor space at statospheric levels than any other skyscraper in the world, and the only right thing to do is restore this unique aspect.

Check it out, read the commentary, and check out the media links.

I think we ought to rebuild them exactly as they were, except with insulated columns this time. We could rebuild them several times over with the money Americans spend on pork rinds alone. That way the terrorists wouldn't have the satisfaction of looking at the skyline and thinking that THEY changed it, in the long run all they did was kill a bunch of innocent people and ensure their own bloody doom isn't far off in the future.

I HAD to go see it for myself.

I was TDY to New Jersey and took they short trip up there (Apr '02) to see the huge pile of rubble. They had a plywood ramp/viewing stand contructed.

It was something I'll never forget. It was the cavernous hole in the ground, and a lot of rubble still remained to be cleared. Quite a sight!

I'm not sure what to make of a replacement tower. On one hand, there's the idol aspect, like the tower of Babel. I don't think God has a problem with tall buildings, per se. But if we look at them and think "look what we have done! We are like gods", then I think God has serious issues with us worshipping the created over the one Creator.

On the other hand, it's just a building.

I'm quite certain that whatever building/memorial eventually occupies that space, it wont be as important as the reason we built it. I'd hoped that the result of 9/11 would be national humility (being considerate of others, etc), but instead it appears the result has been national ego (look how great we are, we're still here).

I don't see how we can continue to spit in God's face, then ask for His protection or provision. God knows I'm at the head of the line of the guilty.

Same here. I went to the site Oct 12th, 31 days after it happened. Big pile of rubble, still smoldering and smelling bad, and constant procession of trucks hauling off the pieces. They had pieces of the exterior structure lying there a few blocks away that you could walk right up to and look at. It was a sad day to say the least.

I have been hopeful they would be rebuilt because they were unique, magnificent structures. I am thankful I was able to visit the Twin Towers on 2 separate occasions and enjoyed the hour we spent on the observation deck of the South Tower. It was quite an experience to look out the windows so high up. I have never been in a building where you could look down on skyscrapers before. Unless you've been in the TT or been to S. Manhattan it's hard to comprehend how grand they were. Like I mentioned before none of the world's tallest skyscrapers have near the floor space at the top that the Twin Towers did.
