Competition The last hook off the year

Competition killed 2 X HEMI tonight!!

Just starting to finally put my twins together and its pretty much a custom setup and I am having a hard time sourcing and oil feed line for going to my large turbo that is sitting over the fender instead of the normal place below the small charger.

What do most do in circumstances like this? is it possible to make my own lines using something Sumits reusable hose ends (earls or aeroquip or there own brand) I was looking in there mag and making the actual line will be easy but its figuring out the fittings for going into my HT3B or even into the engine?

I have noticed a few trucks (BBD's and others) that have this style of lines and hopefully someone will be able to help me out.

Thanks in advance... RyanB

I wish I could remember the sizes of the fittings --but yes you can make your own lines from Earl's or Aeroquip---mine are -06AN, but I don't remember the thread sizes for the turbo's--chris

Ryan and Chris. If memory serves me correctly the Big Turbo will use a 6an to a #6 O-ring (straight threads in the turbo) then the top turbo will use a 5/8th's inverted flare to a 6an then at the oil feed you will use a 1/8th pipe to a 6an on one and a 5/8th's inverted flare (Stock one) to a 6an on the other from there you just use bulk line.

Ryan you might be better of going to a fitting store with this list vise buying from Summit ect.

Jim

Thanks for the tips guys! I am sure someone here in the shop at work will know where I can get a set made up... never thought of that!

Thanks. . RyanB

Man, -6AN is huge for a oil feed line to the turbo, I would think a -3AN line would work just fine?

Your right Joe a 3AN is plenty big. I should have said this too. In the 6AN size there's a better selection of fittings, remember 4AN is usually Brake line stuff.

Yeah, I have always used -3 AN for turbo oil feed lines and pressure lines to gauges like for fuel and oil. -6 AN is just huge and bulky IMHO for an oil feed line to the turbo. There are lots of Aeroquip and Earls fittings for -3 AN that I have seen, much more in aluminum than steel though and of course one would rather run steel than an aluminum fitting that can break. Darn things are just sooooo expensive.

Thanks for all the tips guys. 3AN sounds like the lines for me. Tuesday after the holliday I will be figure what fittings/addapters I need and will put them together!

Graphic Man- Yeah we just got back from the pull. Just my brother pulled... 3rd place... not bad for his first real pull. I will put the video up on the Comp Diesel site.

Alright guys- I went to the local truck shop and we figured out what I need and was a bit supprised at the price. Each line is $75!!! so it will be much cheaper for me just to go thru summit or jegs. I did find out my fittings though so if someone can figure out or have an idea of what I need that would be great... I have never used the AN fittings before.

Does anyone know what fittings are required for the small turbo? I have an HTT HTB2/66 but the fittings are the same as stock so I need to fittings for going into the turbo and then into the oil port in the block? I currently am using a different line from another cummins I have because the hose was a little longer seeing I have already flipped my manifold over. He said that the threads on both ends were -6 MIX... . anyone ever heard of those threads or is something else?

The HT3B has a 3/8 SAE thread and the other port in the block is 1/8" NPT

Any help would be great!

Both threads going into the turbos are straight metrics with o-ring if I remember correct. The HT3B should be 14 MM and the HTB2 is 12mm.

Alright guys... I have 3 our of the 4 fittings now figured out! The HT3B is a 14MM x 1. 5 and my HTT HTB2/66 has a 12MM x 1. 5 and the unused port in on the filter housing is 1/8 NPT.

One last unkown fitting! Does anyone know the size of the port that the original line would have went into? I have decieded not to go with the adapter and just get an AN fitting for this port also just like the other 3.

Anyone have any idea's??? planning on calling Summit as soon as I get the size.

Thanks again for all the help... Ryan

Ryan it go back to my post on 8-31-06 it should be a 5/8th's inverted flare to a AN. I don't know if summit will have those though, they are usually short of the odd ball stuff. Try to find it locally if you can, that way you can take that fitting off and with you.

Jim- yeah I just re-read the whole post and saw that you mentioned the fitting size. Summit does that have that fitting in stock so now I have all the fittings and will be ordering these ASAP.

One other thing... I have never used these AN fittings/lines. Do you really need the special wrenches/cutters to make everything work???

Ryan

I don't, just wrap the hose with masking tape and cut in the middle of it so it doesn't fray as much. Also I use a air cutoff tool and not a hacksaw, then just spray it out with brake cleaner and blow it out with shop air.

Jim

Yeh, and get a box of band-aids ready. Those metal frays will poke all kinds of nice pin holes in you. LOL :-laf

Seriously though, Jim covered most of it.

perfect... all the parts are ordered from Sumit and should be here by tuesday! I also ordered my fire suite and Snell aproved helmet!!! just waiting on some blow off valves I ordered from piers and have to find some schedual 40 bends for my hot pipe and I will fab up my twins this week... . pulling hopefully next sunday with it for the first time!!!

I'm not sure here, but doesn't brake cleaner/carburetor cleaner affect the rubber in the hose? The same as they say to keep those cleaners away from rubber seals/o-rings.

Oh, I landed up using 6AN for the reason that Jim said above... the lack of fittings/adapters in the 4AN size... I was unable to get any of the metric thread sized in reasonable time in the 4AN so thats why I went with the 6AN... should be alright
