Correct

You are correct Don. The B1 is the one you can visibly see. Notice the wastegate actuater sticking up in the middle. This is different from the Holset actuater which would run parrallel with the engine instead of perpendicular like the B1 actuater.

The B1 turbine housing is better then any Holset I've seen. It's dual wastegated instead of a single wastegate. Even Pius at Bell Turbo gives this turbine housing VERY high marks.

Chris hits 60 psi with the comp in the off position and 80 with the comp on with this twin system. Temps are about 1300* wide open.

Next weekend there are two pulls we will be attending. Should be exciting to see how well Chris's engine performs. Last time he pulled was here in HMB. In the pull-off the sled was set for the quad engine tractor that had run last (it was maxed). Chris hooked up and pulled it 250' :--) :--) :--) Before Chris took off, the choker setter hookumupguy was cursing "That's not fair! They didn't reset the sled!!! He shouldn't. . have... . too... OMG"!  :--)

As it turned out, Chris took first place in the modified diesel class and Brad took an impressive second. Both trucks run B1 turbos:cool:

Those twins would work good with my new cylinder head Im working on. Are you guys selling a kit without the B-1 that I could use my HX-40/16 with?

Don~

That is one SWEEEEEETTTT setup.

Though one question... what's with the condom on the Air Filter??? Afraid of getting the fender stained???? LMAO... :D :D (Sorry I had too)

Kev

K-arts--exactly---well not really--just to help with the dust during the sled pulls--plus I had the thing hanging around and decided i'd use it finally--chris

Chris and Nowell I stand corrected, I thought that sock in the pic was a joke, I thought you guys had a ball cap covering the lower turbo to hide it. Chris drive that dude on the street and give us some feedback as to how it acts during normal driving verses the B-1 by it's self, I've how responsive the B-1 is by it's self now I'm wondering what it's like when it's being pushed:D

Jim

on the street, with the Comp box off, the lag is no different now than when I had just the B1 on

---the temps do run hotter until the big boy starts to kick--I've gone over 1300* for about a millisecond a few times--usually when hammering it or starting up a steep hill, but the temps go down right away(2 secs) once a little boost is built---

with the box on 5/5 I've eclipsed the 1300* mark, but I don't know to what extent l only saw red light flashing as I was more interested in boost--but it doesn't stay there--this is where I need more testing--it's just so dang hard in San Francisco and on the freeways to get an open lane to hammer it---

to me the B1 is great in this setup--it performs better under lower speed driving---before it would lose some of its boost if I was getting onto the freeway with a little throttle and then it would catch up--this would happen when the truck shifted into 3rd and I'd lose power for a few seconds---it doesn't do that now---

with the twins it's like having an extra box that's on all the time and then you flick on the COMP it's WOW---

the boost is awesome and temps are in check-so I can't be more impressed with the setup----there's is still a little tweaking with intercooler pipes if I desire(which means I'll probably do it this summer), but for right now I'm in heaven---chris

Nowel, let me know if this post needs to be censered

I don't know if it's a secrect, but I am sure I have seen on these forums that this system is twin B-1's. Is this still the case or has the second turbo been changed to something else?

Andy, not to jump into anyone's world here, but Kurt and I were talking about using the B-1 in a twin setup and that wasn't it. One setup was as primary the other was as the secondary... . don't want to step on toes here.

Answer To Don M.

Don M.

I do have twin turbo systems available that utilize the HX40 as the primary. As a matter of fact, there are several similiar twin systems in Texas to date. I'm currently working on a system that is going to San Antonio.

FYI, we are setting up a place for folks in Texas to get their heads O-ringed. Kwikkurt has one of my O-ring tools in southern New Mexico and he has a couple heads enroute from Texas. We call it the "West Texas Pipeline":) The shipping to southern New Mexico is much cheaper then paying the freight to me here in NorCal. And it beats the cost of having a machine shop do the work by a country mile.

Twin B1's

TDK, until I go to quad turbos you won't see two B1's on a Cummins:-laf:-laf The pic I posted is the only twin system employing a B1 turbo. It's used in conjunction with the highly guarded Performance Diesel #2 turbo.

Nowel,

Please relize I am trying very hard to learn everything I can, with out steping on toes. I would like to carry this on in private, but placeing these questions in public will keep me in check as to not ask to many questions that could lead to someone copying a system that you have worked hard on. In other words I'm trying to learn, without letting it out. Make sence?:)

Now on to my current question:

Would you say that the setups that you have on your truck, and on Chris Sutton's truck are for different goals? What I mean is, would you say yours is better for racing, where as his is better for towing/pulling?

Once again, thanks for answering all my silly questions,

Andrew

TDK--I don't think my setup is primarily for towing or pulling just like HVAC's is more for racing--both setups should be equally good for everything--with my setup maybe better(anyway that's what we are hoping) but let's wait for HVAC's input on the matter to be sure---

JFulmer--thanks and yes on the ice water --

msmtd--I don't know the answer to your question and maybe HVAC or KwikKurt will respond, but don't be surprised if you don't get your answer---but really the B1 kicks a$$ by itself and we are hoping it will do the same in the twins and for now I'd say it is quite impressive---chris

Chris-you don't know the answer to my question? It's under your hood!! You don't Kurt or hvac will answer me,huh? It's a very vague and simple questions. Most people compare chargers by the in/out size. I know this is a "top secret" charger and all... . but geez,it's a simple question.

I'm kinda curious if msmtd ever has anything to contribute or if his mission in life is to try and stir up as much as he can on here? Gotta admit I haven't seen all 43 of your posts-but I did see the first (credit there-one of the few posts on here that actually made me shake my head!) and quite a few of the later ones-nothing of substance that I've seen. Like Chris said-call Kurt or Nowel and see if they'll answer your question... ...

JHansen-thank you for your concern... . it is greatly appreciated.

TDK-I'm not trying cause trouble here. It's just that I keep hearing on these forums how great the b1 is and how it's the best charger available. So I just wanted a simple question answered on the same forums. Is that so much to ask?

BTW-last time I tried to contribute something on here(about a 5. 9 on an engine dyno that blew a headgasket at only 84psi... still had PLENTY left... . and made 950 hp), I was more or less called an idiot and a liar. Because none of these "experts" on here thought it was possible. Those of you that were at Muncie KNOW it is possible... you witnessed it in action!! Can you guess which truck?? So why should I even try??
