Hello everyone. It has been a while
I’m going to be upgrading to a twin turbo setup on the Dodge! Thought I would bring you guys along on the adventure!
It all started with an oil pan leak about a year ago. I tried to snug up the bolts and made it worse.
Roughly two years ago I had the transmission out for more upgrades and had a seeping rear main seal. I replaced the seal and did not get the retaining plate sealed up to the oil pan correctly. This was the third trans removal and install I’m not surprised its leaking.
Now we all know that the proper way to do the oil pan gasket is to remove the engine from the truck…...and while its out…………..might as well spend some rainy-day money!!!
So, the build plan is;
Take the engine to a reputable builder. I will mention his name in a later post after permission. He is a known Cummins performance guy in my area. I will be dropping the motor off today and discussing upgrades. ARP 425s, MLS head gasket, maybe some head work, stock bottom end, Fluid Damper, 200hp injectors,
I have purchased a Twin turbo kit from one of the big diesel web sites. It uses a 62/65/12 over a s475. It’s supposed to be a direct bolt on with no fab necessary. It has good reviews. I do use the truck for work and often tow large loads. I will also be rebuilding the vacuum pump and upgrading the cold side tubing of the intake. I will be keeping the boost at around 50psi. Looking for about 550 to 600HP.
The truck is a 2001 2500 QCLB 4x4. Current mileage 209K. My supporting modifications are, a pissed off wife, full built auto trans, one-piece 6in aluminum driveline, Dana 80 with Detroit True Track diff, DOR track bar and steering box stabilizer, 08 HD steering links, bigger brakes, Edge Juice with Attitude CTS. 4in MBRP exhaust.
My fuel system uses a Fuelabs 100GPH lift pump in conjunction with an additional CAT 2mic filter, all the factory fuel system has been removed except the fuel return line. The lift pump is mounted on the frame rail down in front of the tank. I used a bean diesel bottom sump out of the tank. All ½ inch fuel lines with JIC fittings. A complete stand-alone power system relayed of the ignition for the lift pump. And of course, an Autometer fuel psi gauge in the cockpit.
Goals are to have a reliable 550 to 600HP work/play truck, less smoke and manageable EGTs.
Let me know what you guys think. Please no negative posts.
