BPINE, it is still the stock headgasket after a year. I check for blow outs everyonce in awhile. I usually don't go much over 50-55psi. My gauge maxes out at 60psi and when I change the wastegate it will go way past 60psi. When I dynod it, it only hit 55psi so I should have a little more power than in my signiture. I haven't had time to check it again. I it is still fun to drive every day. It rains a lot up here and I'm always going sideways at freeway speeds.

If you guys lived closer I'd give you a hand building one. I have a MIG and a New TIG in the shop.

Bpine, a headgasket can go at any psi. Maybe 55psi is the norm but it can go at any time. I will "O" ring if it goes.

Thanks for the info Jon, yes it can go at any time I was just trying to get a feel where you were at. I am going to try some studs with the stock gasket which I updated a few years ago to the newer version of the stock gasket, there was an update in Jan of 1998. My theroy is if you can increase the clamp load and keep the head from lifting you will be OK. Even with o rings if the head lifts you are in the same boat, been there many times with the Red Rocket and others.

I have my Van Hasiley gasket in the garage ready to go when it happens but I would like to get some more data first to see if we can save the heavy towing guy a few bucks reliably.

Hey that's a good one Brad, when I was experimenting with small housings on and HX-40 it happened a few times do you remember?

I try real hard not to run high boost when it is cold. I think the expansion of the block and head make a difference.

Mark: If I were you, I'd use at least 3/8" stock for the flanges... .

I made an ugly looking one out of 3/8" with my plasma cutter using an old T3 turbine housing - exhaust manifold gasket as a template...

someone please tell me what to do! O-ring head? O-ring the block? or O-ring both which size . 0?? wire or fire ring? i looking for 50lbs- 60lbs. max 02 std output auto. i am going to buy the BHJ tool very soon

I am going to fire ring and use the 12mm stud kit from Haisley. If I feel ambitious, I just might yank the motor and use the 14mm studs.

My truck only has 21,000 miles on it . i would like to do the 14mm studs but not yet. i am going to do something about the head gasket before it goes.

Opoole

I have the 12 mm studs and fire ring set from Van Haisley, this combination is good to 80 psi with the groove cut in the block only. The head clamping down on the rings crushes them in the groove, making for a very robust seal. Schieds helped me with the install. Enterprise does it this way, too.

Man, this is a good thread.

What would this setup do with an ETC engine... . I mean a HX35-16 & HT3B-26. Keep the pressures under 60psi... stock head, stock cam, 120hp injectors, Comp box??

And how much does an external wastegate costs? Trying to figure out total costs.

This looks like it would be in price range if I ever got the whole concept of how twins exactly works. (I know a lot but not enough)

Plus I am capable of doing my own fabbing. ;)

Of course if the budget allows me to build a twin setup, I would visit inarush76 first about this bone stock 47RE.

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

JD

P. S. Probably like to see 500-550rwhp..... could do it with a single charger but where is the fun it that?:D

thanks throttle jockey! so you only groove the block what size groove do you cut? can you do it with a BHJ tool? did you go with a thicker head gasket ? THANKS

Good night man... . that is awesome. I would love to even have that much power, but realistically I not not want to invest more then I have to.

I just want a setup to blow all these little young Dodge Cummins owners away around here. I am 24 now and I have gotten rid of all my toys. Just trying to be responsible. But I want to play a little again... nothing wrong with that. :)

I know I have a ETC engine, don't know how twins will react with that, but I have an auto transmission, reg cab, 2wd. , 3. 55's, plain jane with no carpet, pwr. windows, locks... . nothing. I know this is the lightest truck you can have with a CTD. So I have a good advantage there.

I did not cut the groove, Kent Crowder of Schied Diesel did. Kent's willingness to bend over backwards for his customer's was refreshing. He took the time to answer ALL of my DUMB questions

and didn't make me feel stupid at all. :D He even answered my queries into the mythical Black Pulling Dodge, everybody KNOWS pullers HATE to do that!

Me; "Where's the Black Dodge?"

Kent; "Which one?"

Me; "How many you got, fer chrissakes!!"

Kent; "Two, just got an '03 and put twins on it, it's hooked to that gooseneck outside. "

Me; "I saw that truck! That thing is brand new!"

Kent; " Yeah. "

Me; "Uh, Kent, most people, when they get a new sled, slap on a coat of wax, get those pine tree air freshener thingys. You get home from the dealership and toss on a pair of twins?"

Kent; "Heh Heh, yeah. There only set for 55psi. "

Me; "Only?"

Kent; " We turned the puller down to only about 150 psi or so. "

Me; :--) Kent said that with a straight face, I swear!

Me; "You turned it DOWN to 150 psi???

Kent; "Yeah, it's runnin' real good now.

Me; "Ya' think?

Kent; :D

That dude is cool!

Oh yeah, Opoole, the rings are 105 thou and the groove was 65 thou??? I could be wrong. Somebody correct me!

Brian

I was wrong. Here Merv wrote this(Huf n Puf)

From what I understand you can cut the groove in either the the head, or you can groove the head, and the block combination. It depends on how much boost you intend on running. For up to 80psi you can cut a . 032 deep and . 120 wide in the head. Studs are required for either. If you plan on running more than 80psi you need to groove the head and the block, but you also have to install bigger studs that involves honing out the head bolt holes in the head, and redoing the threads in the block. I personally think the bottom end would need beefing up over 80psi of boost. I have installed Van Haisley's fire ring set up in my truck. I opted to just groove the head. The system has only been in for a week so I can't comment on the dependability. So far so good. Merv

THANKS for you input iam looking or planning for only 50-60lbs but i do not know. i will be running my EDGE drag box with mach 3. 5 to 4 injectors start off with hx-35 ?cm housing and a HT3B 26cm housing just learning as i go thanks!
