"Gee, what if a fellar is old, foolish, and a curmudgeon to boot?"

HEY! *I* represent that description! :D :-laf

But I keep trying to work on it and smooth off the rough edges... ;)

And, Bighammer - I seriously doubt ANY here were pointing fingers at YOU - and yes, the diversity of members CAN and SHOULD be an asset and not a problem. I hafta admit that this board DOES run on a pretty even keel - and it's FAR better when members police and control themselves, than for the moderators to be forced to step in and separate the offenders - that most always creates cries of "Censorship" and other ugly comments.

I've gotten hot under the collar a few times myself - as a manager of a pretty large business before retirement, I'm far more accustomed to being listened to than abusively challenged - so baseless criticism poorly dished out is sorta hard to accept gracefully - but keep it clean, and we can discuss, debate, and learn a great deal!

We CAN all learn - and SOMETIMES the lesson can come from very (seemingly) inexperienced and unexpected sources.

well i have been in several theads that have gotten out of hand and i was in the middle of one, but i know when to shut my mouth nad respect my elders. As i am one of the youngest members on here (20). i must agree this is a very civil site. Thanks TDR

TDR, this is great place to learn, teach, agree and disagree. I enjoy the posts and the discussions that go on. As far as PJ, I think you need to grow up. Don't bash a young person for speaking thear mind. I see that you have no problem doing so your self.

PS: Hate to see you go.

With hundreds of new posts per day, I doubt that the moderators can monitor all of them as soon as they happen. I have noticed that many of the same "coarse" comments are by the same folks, often in reply to someone else's opinions. I resist making any comments, so as not to fuel the fire. For the most part, by far, this is a great site. I am 40, never even really considered or cared how old other members are. I am here for info! And boy there's a lot! I try to give when I can. I went to the Politics Forum... once! You think there are arguments about DTT vs. ATS or pre vs. post turbo? The politics forum is not for me; I don't go there. If I find someone consistently annoying or inflammatory, I'll use the "ignore" option. PJ, I hope you stay around. All opinions are welcomed by me! Moderators, thanks for your help in maintaining a 99. 9% civil site.

Hey Guys, thank you for the input here. First off, I have no idea where a few guys about 6 months ago got the idea "Im rich"? It may be that they think a guy that has a picture of his truck in front of his log home is rich. Well, I make payments on that log home and as for my Corvette, ive owned it for mor years than I can count on both hands. This place is almost "home" to me. I cant walk past the computer without checking the site! I admit Im a bit on the hot side sometimes when I get flamed but I guess it came from years of supervising new guys on the job and I was "upper management". Due to a rather bad accident 15 years ago, Ive been on an early retirement and actually restore old Chevy trucks as a hobby. My wife is a doctor and is rarely home. My move to Southern Oregon was a real shock to my system a few years ago. I miss my ranch in Northern Calif. I try to visit it monthly as it really isnt that far away and 2 of my sons still live in that area. What Im trying to say is, this is a great site and Im sorry if I got under anyones skin, (except for#$%^&& :-{} ... . and... . :-{} #$%^&*) No names will be mentioned. I know that most "kids" are great here and have great information. I for one can always use good advice. As I type, my Cummins is parked at the local dealer waiting for "STAR" to advise the tech how to fix the issues Im having with the rig. (poor mileage and WHITE SMOKE) I think everyone with a 04. 5 and newer is having the same problems and I think it will lead to a new set of injectors. I guess time will tell. The laest is, they put me in a rather nice rental! Anyway, I got a lesson by Robin and Steve today to use the delete and ignor button in the future.

Thanks to all for your support and happy dieseling... ... ... ..... Oo. :D

Remember the "transmission wars". Everyone agreed and seemed to say "enough was enough" and let that sleep dog lay after the moderators said "y'all cut that stuff out". Maybe a shell of an idea on which to build?

I personally have only had one individual that would argue regardless of my point, and I just refused to answer him and I don't see him around anymore.

Sometimes hard to let it pass, but often the best plan.

If you speak your mind here, the same way you would, as if you were standing in front of the other person. I don't think you'll have any problems.

Can anyone point me in the general direction of the geriatrics forum? :-laf

Wouldn't do any good. You'd never remember how to get there:)

Just my 2 cents, I am a youngster at the age of 23. I try to read the site every day and up my knowledge on Cummins diesel engine arrangements. It is usually pretty hard too get under my skin and no one to date has made me angry on the forums. I plan on subscribing to the TDR at least until I complete the photo of the dodge truck on the binding of the the tdr periodicals. I think the 3rd gen will look neat on my book shelf. Take it for what it is worth. good luck with your future of TDR

longevity doesn't necessarily mean anything

come on now so the young guys aren't what u had hoped for well who are u to judge anyhow and i wonder why people wouldn't like it every time u have a disagreement u run and tell the web master... ..... i don't know but where i was raised that's snitching. in america people are allowed to be different and express themselves u aren't supposed to get along with everyone, that would be boring anyhow.

OK, I *should* just let this go - but I'm pretty sure we have now been exposed to a MAJOR part and example of the problem this thread relates to:

"come on now so the young guys aren't what u had hoped for well who are u to judge anyhow"

It doesn't take a genius or rocket scientist to know when you are being senselessly personally attacked and deliberately insulted - and as *I* read this thread, THAT is what is being complained about...

"and i wonder why people wouldn't like it every time u have a disagreement u run and tell the web master... ..... i don't know but where i was raised that's snitching. "

So, you feel that if you are being regularly mugged on a street corner, you're "chicken" if you call the police? Well, I suppose that would be MY attitude too - IF I was the mugger! ;)

"in america people are allowed to be different and express themselves"

Absolutely NOTHING "wrong" about "expressing yourself" - AS LONG AS you possess the adult self-control and maturity to do it WITHOUT insult or personal attack!

And finally, the most revealing statement of all:

"u aren't supposed to get along with everyone, that would be boring anyhow. "

I would suggest that if YOUR idea of entertainment and contribution to a board such as this revolves primarily around controversy and agitation of other members, you just MIGHT find greater acceptance of your attitude and methods on some other board! ;) ;) ;)

Gary,

Thats exactly the attitude.

Basically your coming off like your opinion is the only one that matters.

Well, I happen to disagree.

Didnt you quit the website once?

Ever think about it again? :-laf

Yep, That would be a fine example of how threads start going bad. Thank goodness for those smilies to keep the intent from being misinterpreted. ;)

If you speak your mind here, the same way you would, as if you were standing in front of the other person. I don't think you'll have any problems.

Now these are words of wisdom. Is it not what you intend to say that counts, it is how your words are perceived that makes the impact. It is important to remember that the other person cannot see your body language, facial expressions, gestures, etc... all of which aid us in face to face communication.

Fortunately it seems to be a reasonably small number of people who are completely inconsiderate and resort to personal attacks as a habit.

I recently spent a few hours with what I consider the next up and coming generation of TDR members, what a great group of people

It seems that this is never going to go away. . Do I need to refer to kids again. . They seem to be the ones that won't let this die :-laf Here is an idea. . Lets get a PG-13 section for all the "kids" to bash themselves to death and leave the real site for those of us that really care about more than bashing every thread we can!
