Installing a brake controller in a '93

How do you have your E-braked auto set up?

I came in last night with 32' gooseneck load of fence behind my truck. 21, 500# gross. Burned 1/2 tank of diesel dragging that load up and down the hils at 60 to 75 mph for 286 miles. Do that reguarly with your 7 year old 3/4 ton and then bragg about it. My toy helps make my living and does it repectfully. It is not just a flashy truck with big tits.

Hi, Someone help me out. I paid $35 to learn more about the truck I ordered, primarily as a first time diesel owner, and I have to put up with this crap? You guys have got to get a life. Is this what this forum is all about?

have you used the search function? there is a TON of information on this site about your truck. And any question you may have after searching will be quickly answered by people who've been there/done that. It'll save you thousands over the years, and you will soon realize that $35 is nothing for what you receive from this site.

With that said, I think some of this Powerstroke vs. Cummins stuff is childish, but you really have to know some of the history, and some of the more extreme stuff might be a little easier to swallow...

The bottom line is that the biggest Ford diesel site on the web tries to delete and edit negative posts about the 6. 0 Powerstroke. I say "tries" because there are so many negative posts, it's a bit overwhealming. People who are members of this site are edited heavily over there, and many have been banned.

So, posts like the one you're having a problem with (and I can certainly understand) are some of the backlash against the closed-minded Powerstroke owners... it's just venting a little frustration.

Bottom line is don't let it get to you, I think you'll find that those kinds of posts make up 1% of the posts on the board... look at it as "tax" on your $35 ;)

Welcome to the site!!

Aww, it's just good-natured ribbing between brand loyalists, happens in EVERY hobby. I always thought it was kind of funny to watch the Powerstroke crowd poke at the Cummins, and vice versa. Just the old "giving the guys the bizness" routine.

In the ancient days when I had a Corvette and went to places where sports car weenies hung out, this sort of brand-based chest thumping was already decades old. I still remember a limerick that's gotta be 40 years old by now...

There was a man from Boston,

who bought himself an Austin

Room for his a$$

and a gallon of gas

but his ***** hung out and he lost 'em.

Ahhh, the beauty of poetry! Now where's that pencil? I feel the muse...

The dejected Powerstroke owner,

was put afoot by a Ford design boner.

He closed the door with a groan,

and said, "I'm finally home!

"Thank God there was a Cummins in that loaner. "

:D :D :p

True Blue Dodge

It's my belief...........

That it is not fair, correct, or right to make negative comments about the other brands, if a person has'nt spent any time driving or working on one.

I for one, owned and drove a 1984 F250 6. 9 diesel for 17 years. And I loved the way it sounded, and rode, and it's durability. And believe me, it was"rode hard and put up wet", many times. Sure it had it's share of problems, but then so did my 99 Dodge.

But, after owning this 2004 Ram, I would be very reluctant to go back to a Ford. Especially one with a 6. 0. However, If Ford offered a F350 with Cummins, or Caterpillar,, then I would have to consider them as a strong contender. In fact it would be a very difficult choice to make when it came to buying a new one.

And I agree that if it were not for the Ford with the International motor, Dodge would not be what it is today. I still think that Ford was a good competitor to Dodge, until they downsized their diesel. And up until this year, I really liked the looks of them.

At any rate, I am not ready to give up my Ram, for a long time!

OK< FLAME ON NOW!!!!!!!!

It all boils down to brand loyalty and personal preference. From beer to underwear, to evertyhing inbetween

I work hard for my $$, and its ME who decides what I buy and drive. My whole family (parenst, brother, sister, inlaws) drives fords. They love them. They think I'm nuts for driving a Cummins powered Dodge. I do my research before i buy anything. I buy what I think is my best deal, has the best capabilities for what I want it to do.

Towing, hauling, LONGEVITY, power, Dodge Ram 2500 CTD

Economical, practical, LONGEVITY, Honda Civic (her car)

Power, price, 4 wheel independent suspension, Yamaha Grizzly 660

All american muscle car, 1970 Nova SS

I love this site, and truly believe its the best $35 i ever spent. And trust me, i shopped around before i committed!!

Keep the Opinions coming.

I have heard that Ford is talking to Cummins and Deere about diesel engines for their HD p-ups. Their relationship w/International is very bad and they are ready to give them the boot. Two reasons for the bad relationship:

1) The 6. 0 was a total disaster at SOP. Ford is buying back trucks from angry customers. Reliability is very bad.

2) Ford was working w/International on a V-6 diesel for their SUVs. Ford pulled the plug, International sued and won lots of money from Ford.

Regardless, the person that started this tread was just trying to get us riled up.

I spent too much of my youth in tractors to buy a V-8 diesel. I really miss making that 4840 throw smoke! A John Deere diesel in a ferd might make me take a second look though.

I bought a dodge cummins for its engine potential more than anything else. If i planed to leave the motor stock I would have to look at all 3 brands. I feel that that the 6. 0 and the duramax are maxed fairly maxed out in stock form. Not a problem unless you want to add another 200 hp and have the motor last. Its hard to beat the durability of the cummins. Isn't it nice to have the option of turning your old cummins into a 600hp monster, or even 700hp. heck, why not make it an even 1000!:D I have no problem with fords or chevys, its just that dodge has spoiled me with a motor that can be totally bombed and still reliable. I have not seen many 500-600hp fords of chevys out there, let alone ones that are daily drivers that can still pull trailers cross country. just my opinion.

I've seen a few fairly high HP Fords - by the time they get anywhere CLOSE to 450 HP or so, they run so radical and ratty, they're practically WORTHLESS on the street - let alone any form of daily driver... Gotta LOVE the rock-solid reliability and durability of a Cummins, even at 500+ HP... ;)
