Uconnect 8.4 & 8.4an update - 17.11.07

Well, being that you have 16 model year, you already had apple car play and android auto, so us folks with 13 and 14 model year trucks may see more differences, if they really are giving the older vehicles that functionality now.

I have a 17, and it doesn't have android auto.

I have the 2017 RAM 3500 and my usb port wont read usb, iphone (different models), etc so not only cant I try this update but can have music on the phone be read in this manner. uconnect didnt know what was wrong, have reset the radio a couple of times and only the aux port works in the sense that you can play music into it. Even pulled the fuses as others had suggested to see it that would help but no. Is it possible just my usb port is bad even when it lights up still? Odd

Are you plugging in to the correct USB outlet? The one on the dash is charge only, have to plug into the one in the center storage compartment.

Have not been offered the latest update as of yet. Went on line and it indicated that the latest one was the version I installed last year. Guess I will check periodically or hope that it is offered now that I know that there is an update out there.

If you're talking about loading any update downloaded from the web, unzip it on your computer first then load the file directly on a clean USB drive. Just the file not a folder with a file.

Also if you're using a Mac, make sure the USB drive's file system FAT32 and not Mac Journaled.

Mine took FOREVER to receive (yes it is an over the air only update) from the time I got the notice in the mail to the time it finally hit me this weekend. Kind of ****** me off at the timing as we were on a weekend run to one of the state parks about 150 miles away. The notice popped up just as we were pulling in. Everything I've read, and it also says, to keep the ignition ON to download so I didn't want to stop the process and hope it hit again. I left it idling while the kids played and checked 15ish minutes later and the download was complete. Turned the truck off and let the kids play while it continued to do its thing. It probably took closer to 45 minutes to finish the install with the several reboots of the radio and finished up about the time we were ready to stop for a bite to eat. Yup, it's different alright. Had to reset all my stations, figure out the drag and drop for my accessories buttons, reset all my comfort settings and several other things. Only thing left alone and correct was the time but I've got it set to use GPS for time sync. <LOL> I still have quite a few menu's to go through to see what else has changed and there is a "Theme" selection menu now that I haven't played with yet that has around 10+ options. So far, no hick-ups or glitches.. Guess the "Over the Air" update wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, other than timing.

The maps have slightly more contrasting colors than before which is nice. I didn’t go through the themes, I think it had at least 6 or so originally. The texting interface with the phone is a little different, maybe just graphically.
Other than that and moving a few icons, I haven’t uncovered anything more.


Oh, and I’m not getting anything over AM. Not even crackles and pops when I manual tune to known stations. It’s like the tuner is not powered on at all. I might only use it once in a blue moon but I would still like to have it. I don’t know when it quit but I am suspicious.

Roadside traffic advisories are on AM freqs and important at times. I would think FCA would be obligated to fix it. SnoKing

Might just be me but one thing I did notice is it seems to take longer to sync with my phone for test messages. I used to remote start the truck as I was headed out the door at work and turn the phone on, get in push all the right buttons to get operational and by the time I lit a smoke I was syn'd and receiving my daily messages. Since the update I'm miles down the road before it notifies me of new message. Again, might just be me.

Seems that voice search to fine things like a Dairy Queen or Safeway Store no longer work when I have a active navigation to a point going. Cancel nav and then I can then find things. SnoKing

Apparently it wasn’t the update that done it then. I’ll have to reset the radio and see if that fixes it. I wonder if that wipes anything with Nav, like saved waypoints and such?

Still waiting for an update for my ‘16 804an...
My last update was sometime about 1 year ago.
I keep checking the site with my VIN and it says I am up to date.
Guess I will simply wait?

Did you get the update notice in the mail yet? It took about 3 weeks from the time I got that notice to the time it hit my radio. Remember, this is an "Over the Air" update and it doesn't matter if you're a UConnect subscriber or not it will still be received over the air. You have to have a good, I believe Sprint, signal for it to happen. I had been taking weekend drives in known good Sprint areas trying to get it to update when I know I had time for the download at least. Yea, if you decline, stop or otherwise interrupt the download it has to cycle all over again. Mine hit as I was parking at one of the area lakes.. I didn't want to turn my truck off, that's an interruption, so I let it sit for around 10 minutes running (OH NO!!) and the download was completed when I got back to the truck. The install will take place whether the truck is on or off. ANYWAY, point being if you haven't got the notice yet you probably are not in the update que yet. It will NOT show on the download page if the update is available or not as it's not a downloadable update.. It would seem that sooner or later they would have to make it downloadable for people who are not in good Sprint areas. Who knows though.

I don't think it adds CarPlay. The update notice says:
"The following improvements are included in this update:
• Adds Apple Siri® Eyes Free capability for iPhone® owners." This is wierd because I have a 2013 2500 with the old firmware and it has the Siri capability now.

I have a 14 3500, just did the update and NO on the CarPlay!!

Mine did update as well. NO CarPlay. Guess the older units don’t have the hardware to handle it.
