SO at 236,***km my head gasket decided it was bad... sounds fair... took the truck in, they pulled the head, and the gasket was missing in three places! The head gasket was replaced and a stud kit installed as well. I had the truck for a day and a half, when I noticed my voltage meter was reading really low, so I pulled her over and looked under the hood... . OIL pouring out where the head mates with the block... in the front! So I took the truck back in, they pulled the head again, gasket was shot in the same place as before, though before no oil leaked... the block and head were both perfectly straight, but they sent the head in to be ground so it was perfect... . while the head was in the machine shop, they found that the exhaust valves were burned... the guides were shot, and the seals were no good either, so they replaced ALL of the valves, intake included, not sure if that was neccesary? along with the valve guides, seals, and seats. So I guess what I am getting at is, what would make the valves and other associated parts be so worn? also is it neccesary to do all of the valves if only the exhaust valves were bad? I just want to know what to do in the future to reduce the risk of wrecking them again? I run full synthetic all the time and change it religiously, I also am very cautious as not to let my EGT's get out of hand either... just confused and unhappy with the cost of this adventure, and would like to prevent it if possible, I thought these engines lasted for a long time... thanks for any information!! :)

That is totally normal on a 24v. Those guides wear very fast. A few people i know put all new valves, and guides and did not put seals back in.

i feel your pain joaker, well now she be ready for NADP bash come this summer, hope your luck gets better, whats a ballpark$$$for a rebuilt head,i hear Piers head ported/oring and all done up can run 3500-4000Can. From my old man that rebuilt alot of gassers on the side(don't know if this applies to diesels)but if the exhaust were bad he errored on the side of caution and did the whole haed, beats having to redo those worn parts a little later on.

Looks like yours is more ready for Dyno Days than mine is... lol How are you liking the Mach 4's? They were kind of the direction I am leaning... and the smarty... . might have to see how that goes... as for the rebuilt head, that would be about double what this little adventure is going to cost me... so for now, I think I will hold off on that idea, but a good option nonetheless. Sure hope to see you out there this year too! Check out the website for the details, it should be a good one this year.

Thanks for the info, actually the mach4's go in tomorrow, got ahead of myself and changed my sig a bit early, but with the mods in my sig and mach 1. 5,smarty on #7,she runs not bad, pinned to the floor and 1100pre pulling hard,35 lbs of boost. . Just cheched NADP site,me wife and brolaw will be there, hope to hook up/see ya there. Good luck getting your ride running again---later :D
