I thought i'd make a flashy title for this thread! :D

I'm very close to ordering DTT products for my trans rebuild and I was just wondering what combos you are running, as far as torque converter efficiency (89/91/93%) and valve body rating (towing/livestock/hotrod). What you do with your truck, what mods have you done to your truck, and any opinions on the different DTT TC's and VB's would be great too. I'm thinking about going with the 89% TC and Towing VB. Don't know for sure the different classifications of the valve bodies.

I'm not a sled puller by any means, and the closest drag strip (which i've never been to) is 100 miles away (although Brainerd Raceway is only 300 miles or so). I'm mostly looking for a fun ride with the occasional highway kill or interstate race mode. :D Oh who does that anyway... . :-laf I also farm a small amount of land. Although I don't tow anything currently with the truck, I would like the ability if I would have to. I also have a goal of just over 500 HP and 1000 Ft Lbs with this truck, safe and daily-driver streetable. I wish I could have gotten a dyno run in before my trans went out, but I didn't, so I don't know what i'm currently at. I'd like to guess 350-400HP but i'm not for sure.

So what's your guy's and gal's opinions on which converter and valve body does the job?

A 89 and a towing vb will work well for you truck and use. I run 89's in both of mine. a hotrod in one and a regular 89 in the other. I can't tell the differnce. A 91 will work well if you have alot of low end. But for the average driver it comes with too many draw backs. Very high heat for one.

mine was done in the dark ages and never skips a beat. 91% tc and vb and clutch pack update done back in 2001 :)

works perfect but then again opie brought the shafts to a new level Oo.

I have 3. 55 gears and run 33" tires with an old school, like Bob's, 91% TC. I have really grown to like the 91. FWIW - If you have 4. 10 gears I would consider a 91.

Everyones tastes are a little different as well as what the pickups are used for. I have an 89%, hotrod valve body, full billet. I have over 180 1/4 passes on it since having DTT do the trans in March. I also tow a travel trailer from time to time, and I towed a friends race car and enclosed trailer to Mission,BC (580 miles each way) to the bracket finals a month ago, and then we both raced while there. I love the setup I have.

The best advice I can give you is to give Bill K. a call, and be honest with him. What I mean is when he asks you what you use your pickup for, and how you want it to shift, be honest. He is very capable of matching the trans to give you what you ask for. Make a list of the things you hated about the stock trans (eg. revs to high in first before it shifts), and give this information to them. Everything I had on my hated list was taken care of.

I have the 89% and my valvebody is sort of a custom in-between the race and livestock. It's supposed to shift harder than a livestock but not as hard as a race valvebody. It still shifts hard enough to break the tires loose on 1/2 throttle and above shifts though. I wouldn't recommend it for the morning coffee drinker unless your cup has a lid. But I love it. Floor It Diesel Performance in Lawerence Kansas did mine.

Call DTT,

They will ask you lots of questions in regards to your truck, driving style, HP/mods, towing, and what you want to do with your truck. They then make a profile for your truck and put together a transmission package that can't be beat!

Thanks for the replies! Let's keep this thread alive! :)

DTT recommended a 89% TC and a medium-shifting VB. We've talked it over and I plan on getting a good amount of items from them. I just want to get a feel of what others are using, for comparison sake, and what everyone feels about how their transmission operates, as far as shifts, turbo spooling, etc.

i have an 89h converter with a hotrod/towing vb. dtt asked a lot of questions of how i use the truck and this is what they said would work the best. my vb is a combo of the hotrod and towing vb. since i tow with my truck (about 10,000lbs) and want to get into drag racing/pulling they gave me the best of both worlds. this trans is awsome. when i want to drive hard or tow something the trans is perfect. dtt said with the 89h converter the turbo would spool faster when im towing.

Which ever you decide you will be all :D I'm not a sled puller or racer but my rig only comes out to tow my 12,000 5vr. Bill set me up with a 89% for towing. I dynoed at 332hp & don't have any plans on going any farther. Like whats already been said when you tell them how you want it to shift & what hp you are looking to reach they will do you right.

When your truck is all done & you get on the skinny pedal you will be :--) impressed at the difference.

I have a 91 in my truck. Too bad you weren't closer, I'd take you for a ride. I'm down in the willmar area once in a while though... how far away is that?

About an hour drive north of here. :D What's your location or region?

Don't hear of too many DTT trucks in MN, not too many people from MN on this board, period.

The way it looks, I might be in for more than a rebuild. We might even be looking at some flushing of the lines, heat exchanger, and cooler. The fluid smells real burnt and it is very dark! Also pulled the OD section off today and the first clutch plate that I saw looks burnt up bad. :D :-laf

I have 2 DTT's and I am from Brainerd MN. :D

 Says Southern California in your profile... .

2 DTT's, Sweet! Might as well ask, what's your take on them? :D

Wish you guy's lived closer.

I moved to southern cal in 90. I love both of my DTT's. And customer service is great. Bill K had helped me out with many problems before I had even bought any of his products. And the more I learn about the other trans the happyer I am with my DTT's.

91 DTT and I love it, truck pulls great, you do need to watch heat in city driving.

Installed at 140,000 miles,, had to rebuild transmission at 200,000 lost a band strap, transmission not DT used the same torque converter, now have over 380,000 miles on truck, the torque converter and transmission are still working great.

Hey John, I'm bout 20 miles from Joplin.

Best and favorite bomb of all......

91% installed with EZ in 4-01 with 2K on the truck. Told Bill that would be all bombs I'd ever do... . he just laughed like hell. 105K miles later... everyday this transmission still brings smiles.

Dtt

89% tc & towing VB & with just an EZ 2nd gear chirps at 1\2 throttle all day long! When you tow you will $hi@#!! I can't help but grin :D :-laf :D everytime I get behind the wheel.

Simply awesome. You won't be disappointed!

Hey Richard,

What do you think you are running for HP? I was thinking that you had dyno'd your truck and am just curious. We're running about the same mods. I have 370's, #6 plate, GSK, BHAF, and the pump has been calibrated as well (by me :D).

Kind of a coincidence, Stefan mentioned your name when we were talking about transmission mods. Said that you had a some problems but sorted them out with a few adjustments. :D Also said that your truck combination rocked!
