How to add class to an ST

My brother's Chevy had a light on a rope that had a wire long enough to reach the rear tires. Is there an aftermarket setup so I can put one on his Dodge truck?

Has anyone put a switch on the uderhood light so the hood can be left open without draining the batteries? Thanks.

I added one of the underhood lights you mentioned to my '82 GMC (full size) Jimmy just after I noticed one on a new '88 GMC truck. I ordered it directly from GMC parts. In addition to the on/off switch, the remote light had a magnetic base that could be placed anywhere on the vehicle. What a trick little piece. I could even place the light on the tailgate of my Jimmy!

Thanks for reminding me, I was discussing this not too long ago with Rob Hanson, telling him I intended to order another one for my Dodge Ram.

kaffine krazed,

If you strike out with Johns'suggestion, try a 'Blue Oval' dealer. My '81 Ford F-250
bottom of the line Ranger 4X4 had one on the
passenger side under the hood. It had a mercury switch (I installed an on/off switch) and it had a magnet base on the lamp asm. There was enough cord to reach the tailgate easily.

Like Mick2500 I also had a 83 F250 and 2 items I miss are the light with the magnetic base that would reach the tail end and a tire chain storage box that could also hold an extra battery.

I had one on a Fraud once. I liked it so much I ordered one for the other side of the hood. This one wound up with a crank instead of the spring loaded "window shade"deal that the o. e. m. one had. I think I got it from my local Napa dealer. Anyway, it stayed in the shed when the Fraud got traded in. One of these days I'll find a nice spot to mount it. The insulation on the hood doesn't look like I should cut it up. I think the crank time lite came on some Jeep Cherokees also.

There's a little red clip that locks the wire connector to the light under the hood. I just unclip it and disconnect the wire if I'm under the hood a long time - like when I removed the factory oil filter #ad
. When finished, I just plug the wire back in and lock the clip.

Fireman Dave, in addition to the little red clip there is a secondary clip which is the same color as the connector, which also has to be released prior to separating the connector halves (at least my '98. 5 is set up this way).
