Does anyone undercoat 3rd Gens? Some time ago I worked at a place that undercoated lots of 1st Gens. Just curious if it's worth my time to get my new 3rd Gen undercoated.

If it's like mine there's no paint under there... only primer. I undercoated mine myself with a mix of bedliner and flat black Rustoleum. Touchups two or three times a year.

We have some great stuff here: http://www.dieselmanor.com/Accessories/pdrp.asp

It's PDRP. Here's a little info on it:

This is an alternative to the standard rubberized undercoating that is commonly available at parts stores. Rubberized undercoating commonly flakes or chips off. PDRP is a heavy wax film that seeps into small crevices. It penetrates surfaces and forms a yellow in color film that lasts until you remove it. Petroleum based with excellent chemical resistance. Tested to withstand 1,000 hours of salt spray. It is great for undercarriage protection of body panels and truck bed protection

I Live in Upstate NY where it snows alot and salt is used extensivley and Had mine Ziebarted and hav never had any problems and it is a great sound deadener too

All I did was the front and rear drive shafts. My last truck rusted within a few months. So far, this one still looks great after a year!

My dealer did mine at delivery. I had the 96 undercoated at delivery as well, and there was no rust to be seen except at the rear bumper mounting bolts. Despite what the manufacturers and consumer groups tell you, you just have to do it here in NJ, where they spread salt if someone spills a Slurpee on the street in December.

good stuff

try Durabak coatings can put on pretty much all but plastic comes in alot of colors. pending where you need it this is good stuff.

Durabak

Here in the great white north the biggest name in the industry is Rust Check

www.rustcheck.com

I've done my truck every fall since new, even the frame still has the paint on it and no rust. ( 250,000 miles)

good luck

An undercoating thread. . and so far everyone is for and none against? Wow. . usually these topics bring out the "Not going to keep it long enough, its galvanized anyway, the stuff doesnt work, new vehicles dont rust" crowd.

I second everything KC said.

Ziebart everything. . the truck, the car, the kids, the dog, everything.

Undercoating

After DC performed some right rear fender work on my

'03 Ram, I asked them if they had to heat it to get it

straightened out, they replied no that the vehicle has protection

fused to the underside and that heat destroys it. At this point I

asked them why I no longer see undercoating on newer vehicles and

they advised that it is not necessary. I do know that my '96

Cherokee was undercoated and you could punch holes in the floor

from the underside, it was so rotten. I only saw corrosion where there

was undercoating, much to my surprise. The seal could have been

broken when my RR radio was installed under the passenger seat

when it was new,

32 minutes... about what I figured.

"Protection Fused to the Underside" ( This should have raised suspicion ) "Heat Destroys it". ... To add... "Not Necessary". Wow...

I went back and read some "thin metal & bad paint" Threads, and the common theme is the lack of PAINT, only visible primer on the undersides.

I would like to know more of this "fused protection" you speak of.
