I was at an unfamiliar pump on a road trip once. I could NOT get the pump to turn on. I went to the office and got the attendant to come out and get it going. He pointed out immediately that I had the gasoline nozzle in my tank and was trying to push the diesel button.... Their gasoline nozzle had a green cover on it....

I did same thing, gas nozzle had green and diesel had Yellow, think it was around Pa., caught it after putting a gallon in, then topped it with 35 gallons diesel, no problems with it

Just let the lift pump and CP3 flush out the rail. If you want to crack a couple easy to get at injector lines at the rail it will go a bit faster when you crank it over. Lock em down and fire it up.

That was probably in Canada - because that is their color scheme at the pumps.

Illinois! I did the same thing in Brooklyn lllinois on I80. Beat up station.
Tired. Towing eastbound. I put about 2 gallons in then the fear of god struck as the smell of gas hit my simple brain. The pump was old, no lights to show what you had chosen. Same color set up as your description.
I put a bottle of Lucas fuel conditioner in and 20 gallons of diesel. Needless to say it was almost shrink time for that tank of fuel to go away. I filled up again at the half way mark.No issues ☺️

There is a Gulf gas station in the town that I live closest to, on one side of the island the gas handle is green and the diesel is yellow, on the other side of the island the gas handle is yellow and the diesel handle green. It drives me nuts! An exercise in futility but I have told them about it several times.

That's rediculous... I go to the same station always (High Volume Station) and only use the truck island so pretty hard to get mixed up over there. Side not, as much crud as was on the pickup strainer in this thing makes me want to carry a roll of rags to wipe out the nozzle at the stations for my new RAM

OK, Update

Tank cleaned, fresh diesel 15gal and some Diesel Clean, New filter, canister drained 3x, LP side flushed of all GAS, FCA pulled, no sign of metal, clean as it should be, cycled lift pump 50 times running return flow to a waste tank, started up.

She was alittle slow to start the first time, but then ran rough for about 30sec and smoothed right out, after idling for about 10 min, I ran her on High Idle to warm to OP temp, then let sit a 1/2 hour and , restart, repeat... Alls good..

Going to put the bed on and drive for the next two weeks to keep an eye on her, but this is encouraging. :D:D

Thank you all!!! As always, I hope I can pay it forward.

Brian

BTW,, FWIW the torx head bolts on this 2012 HO CP-3 FCA were T-25

(dang that's a lot of acronyms):D:D

I hope that helps someone, just clean it and make sure it fits good before putting the monkey @$$ into it. (actually it wasn't that tight), but the T-27 was clearly a no go...

thanks for the update. always appreciate a conclusion. cheers sir! :)

Several months ago I made a stop to fuel up, inserted card, grabbed the hose nozzle, and pushed the diesel button. No fuel being delivered, diesel button flashing. Double checking I realized I grabbed the wrong hose, modern technology saved the truck and me.

About 5-7 years ago I accidentally put a few gallons of gasoline in my CRD Jeep Liberty at an Amoco station. Gas pump had a green cover, diesel was black. Started up fine, but after about 30 seconds started to run like crap. I didn't even drive it out of the station. Had them flush the fuel system including the tank and replace the fuel filter, it was only about $75. When I picked it up, it ran smoother than it had in a long time; I guess the gasoline cleaned out a bunch of crud from my injectors and the CP3 pump. Haven't had a lick of trouble with it since. Hopefully you will have the same luck I did.
