Well fellow Truckers,
After over a year, I'm finally plumbing the aux fuel tank, installing EGT, boost, transmission temp and FP gauges, cool air plumbing on stock filter housing, CB, aux lighted switches to operate aux lights, aux fuel tank pump, and tool box lights, some 3. 5" speakers in the dash, and CB . I'm going to wait to install the Air Dog 150 and the Griffin fuel/water separator. I will post pictures when my photographer gets back in town.
Aux fuel tank. Plumbing the aux fuel tank was easy. I plumbed it through the 2nd Gen fuel filter housing and used the 2nd Gen lift pump and a cutoff valve using 3/8" fuel line. Still have to wire electric. I mounted the fuel filter housing, lift pump beside the aux fueltank/toolbox. Mkes it easier to change fule filter. I also will mount the Griffin fuel filter/water separator in that location too later on.
Cool Air Plumbing. I won a Cool Power plumbing setup for 3rd Gen at May madness in 2006. I remembered it and decided to install on the 4500. Sweet, easy install. Question: Not sure if I want to gut out the baffles in the pipe that connects air box to turbo. Whatcha all think?
Gauges:
EGT. I've drilled and tapped about 20 exhaust manifolds (4 for me/the rest for friends). I picked the recommended location to drill about 2 inches right of center. I broke the darned tap clean/even w/ manifold. #@$%! My brother in law had a set of cool tools... broken tap removal tools. had the bad boy out in about 5 minutes. Sweet. It is now tapped and ready to go. whew!
Boost. I installed the Genos boost bolt that you replace one of the manifold bolts. Threads seem a little short. Gonna compare Vivians '03 2500 to see if the grid heater/intake horn is thinner than the 4500. I may tap the intake horn if I have to.
transmission Temp: I'm using the aluminum clamp from Genos. Is the hot line the front one on the Aisin? I do have the OEM CD Service Manual, but thought I'd see if someone knows off the top of thier heads?
Gauge Housing: Got the one that holds three gauges (EGT, Boost, transmission Temp) on the top of the dash. I have two cans Mopar Gray, both wrong. One too light, one to dark. Decided for dark on the outside/light on the face. Gonna install the FP gauge in the covey hole left of heat/AC controls.
CB/Switches: I'm glad I don't have a full console... gave me great mounting for Cobra 129 CB/Weather Night Model. I removed the rubber tray that fills the hole where the standard stick shift would go. I ordered fused, 4 HD lighted rocker switch setup from emergency vehicle supply that I cut a slot in the rubber tray to fit in. I installed a power panel from Genos and have run leads through dash to feed switches. I'm running 4 conductor 12 guage trailer wiring in rubber sheath to feed fog light, back up lights, aux fuel tank, and toolbox lights (rv type for both side boxes of tow body and toolbox on fueltank).
I plan on finishing all this this weekend. My wife if back in town and will ask her to take pics, which I will post.
Nice to get tis stuff done finally. Getting ready to drag the 5er over the Big Bend over Thanksgiving week. Oo.
Happy Trail, Wiredawg
