To anybody who has one of these installed...

Does yours clunk when it opens or closes? Also, when I first start the truck, it'll cycle 2-3 times starting a few seconds after I start the truck. This is even if the switch is disengaged.

I have the power wire run to the 10A fuse for Engine, since I never found a good switched 12v source.

I know it's not hitting anything when it operates; I was very careful about positioning it so that it will never come into contact with the truck body or frame, or anything else. Just seems kinda noisy, since my old PacBrake (on my '96) was totally silent.

Rob,

I have a PacBrake, but a friend has the US Gear Exhaust Brake and it makes a loud clunking noise when it opens and closes.

When mine works, it makes a clunking sound when closing and a softer "clicking" noise when it opens back up. I have never experienced the cycling you are describing at start up.

Mine has a problem that I think is a bad ground and only works when it want to. The remote seems to work good and the indicator lights will be on but the brake doesn't engage or will not disengage sometimes.

RobG, What you are hearing is the solenoid activating the butterfly valve. It does hit pretty hard. The e-brake cycles 2 times after 15 seconds. If I remember the brochure correctly it was to prevent carbon build up in the brake unit if you don't use it running empty. The theory was some people only use the e-brake when actually hauling or towing. Personally,I use mine all the time. If you want to disable the start-up cycling, just hit your throttle hard enough to kick the microswitch, after you start your truck. Hope this answers your questions.

Yes, the U. S. Gear Ebrake is designed to do the two cycle routine. If you don't like the "noise" it's easy to defeat - just push down on the accelerator enough to make the microswitch (same switch that engages brake when you take your foot off the pedal) and it won't happen. Of course this defeats the "cleaning" action but has it's moments if a little less noise is advisable. Hope this helps.
