Be sure you check engine hours to total miles driven to see the average MPH. You don't want anything under 35MPH (grocery getter) hard on the emissions

Sometimes the hours are not always recorded accurately.

This truck turned 6 years old this past wed 9/18.

It has definately idled more than 8 hours in 6 years.

As for the turbo...... It seems like there are many more reports of Turbo actuators failing as opposed to turbos failing.

Welcome to the club. This is the club that forks money out of our wallets to FCA and the dealers

So you're butthurt over a quote I used from another website helping support your question? Come on man.....get over it. You're an adult, let's try harder at these adulting things we call respectful conversations. No need to get wound up over it.

If you like PS stuff, good for you. All I was encouraging was making informed decisions. I'm not telling you what to do or not to do. Not all will agree with you or me. That's life. If it wasn't the case we'd all be driving Fords in the same color and options.

Your comprehension is lacking. 1st, you assumed I use P.S. simply because I proved it had no alcohol. As a matter of fact, I don’t. I use Howe’s. I do however dislike bad information and correct those who provide false info.
We’ve been through all this years ago. Whether it’s oil or fuel additive a manufacturers endorsement of a product is always a financial move. It’s either cash or in the case of P.S. reduced wholesale costs in return for prominent product placement on the parts Dept floor along with the requisite propaganda. Business comes first.

False info? Go read the thread and research it again. The info YOU provided shows alcohol, you proved nothing. Others came in and posted more info backing it up. I even posted a link showing where Cummins endorsed it as well. (Just like above.) It’s simple. Like I said, don’t care if you use it, love it, bathe in it, sell it, the owner, doesn’t matter to me. But to have valid information posted and you claim it’s not there and then come back and defend it again is false information.

The reality is, people should do the research. I’ve been down this road, I’ve seen the evidence. I was sharing my results and ENCOURAGING OTHERS to do the same.

It’s a shame we can’t have a discussion over this....but clearly we can’t. I’m not interested in internet arguments and unnecessary drama. There’s other websites that are much better for that.

To the OP, I apologize for derailing your thread with nonsense. This place is usually a lot better than this...

No apologies needed to me.

I'll look tomorrow and see if I can pull up that hours information. I did get the oil changed today and I'm wondering if automotive engineers don't like mechanics, or more specifically, DIY types like most of us. I'm sure I figured out the 4 hardest ways to get the oil filter out of that cave. I did google around a bit last night and didn't get enough education, I guess. I don't have much skin left on my knuckles from the 40 years of fun with engines in my shrimp boat, and I've tried most of the cuss words, but it looks like I need more skin and more cuss words. I did go with K&N filter with the nut on the bottom this time. I like those.

Thanks for the info on the synthetic oil, I'll go with that next time. I never did like the idea of a 5W- oil in these engines, altho plenty of folks way smarter than me run it.

I prefer 15w-40 full synthetic to 5w-40 full synthetic because it usually has a lower NOACK volatility, and is slightly thicker at operating temp. The pour points are plenty low on the oil I run, Amsoil DME, at -40°. Only 5°F is gained by the 5w-40 Amsoil, so I’ll take the better properties of the 15w-40.

Thanks for posting that.

I run the 15-40 non LE Diesel Marine in all my other engines gas and diesel.

You may want to reconsider the K&N.

It shows a compound derived from, in part, a lab produced product in the alcohol family. Not denatured alcohol or methanol. When’s the last time you saw alcohol with a 315 degree Fahrenheit boiling point. Like I said, poor comprehension.

Before selling my 05 I had switched to DME vs the AME (Diesel Marine), as it has better qualities aside from TBN... which isn't an issue anyhow with this oil.

Since you have multiple rigs it might be worth just having 1 oil in the garage.

Uh oh, no go on the K&N ? I had read some good things about those, I thought. I was going to go to Fleetguard next time around.

That is correct it is a NO GO on K&N Filters or air boxes. All they do is lighten your wallet of cash! The Fleetguard/Mopar air filter and the standard air box on your truck will support up to 400 HP and over 1000 ft.-lb. TQ as designed.
Some aftermarket filters open up the air flow to the turbo and thus do not trap the contaminates in the air. By doing that they can harm your engine and components on your engine like the turbo.

Do a search on this form for K&N air filters to see what the comments are!

Think he was referring to the K&N oil filter (nut on the bottom). Not sure about their oil filters, but I stick with Fleetguard for oil, fuel and air!

Since FleetGuard moved our oil filter production to Mexico I have switched to Donaldson/AMZ/OIL oil filters. Better flow and filtration.

Are you sure about that? They have a BIG plant about an hour from here. I used to visit them on a regular basis to service/repair some of their equipment. I haven’t been there for a while, but I haven’t heard they closed down either.

*Edit*
A quick internet search shows they are very much still in production there and currently hiring.

Yes you are correct!
I should have stated that the K&N oil filter is not much better than the K&N air filter. Why? If you look at the Turbo Diesel issue 71 Feb/Mar/April 2011, in there is an article on oil filters. Several filters were discuss by John Martin at least 10 different makes from Fleetguard to Purolator. The K& N oil filter is in my humble opinion sub-standard when measured against the Fleetguard, Mopar and or Donaldson oil filters. As far as construction and number of pleats (area of filtration) of media to filter the oil. Also the cost of the K&N filter was higher (in 2011) compared to the standard Fleetguard filter.

I said “our filters”. Look at the StrataPore for the 6.7. It says Made In Mexico.

Genos sells a nice adapter for a 3/8 ratchet to change the oilfilter.
To make no mess, cut off a plastic water bottle, push it up around the filter, unscrew it that way that it drops into the bottle. No mess.
