Id be happy to use the 35 if i were you. I have the PDR HX40 /16 on top,and it performs great once under boost, but in twin configuration its just too laggy for me. Id go with a 35 or a 40/35 if I did it again.

Something is not right John, makes no since to me why they would be laggy unless a wastegate is stuck open a little and yes I've seen that, I typically run a lb of boost for every 100 degrees of egt starting at 500-600 light throttle driving, meaning if I take off from the house if I'm at 700 degrees then I better be at 6 psi or more or something isn't right, I don't feel like mine are laggy even with my timing.

SM, The lag in mine is non exsitent, I start making boost as well as it did before with just the PDR HX-40 and right at about 12 PSI the big turbo take off and it's off to the races. I am just flabergasted at how well it tows my TT, my only down fall is rear tire life

Jim, im 100% sure it isnt the wastegate, since ive had two totally different hx40s on it,and it didnt make a bit of difference. Also ive looked at the gate and checked it to be sure, every time i had the head off(about5x). Its the first 5psi that are real slow, after that its ok til 25 or so,then it shoots to 63psi+. With my new wastegate it shoots to 60 much faster, the 40 works a little harder til about 30psi,then its the same as the old wastegate. My old B1 spooled much harder though, the twins build power smoothly and more linearly in my truck. . Im just tired of getting beat on the street in roll on 's by my buddies single turbod truck(my old single) with less fuel, because his large housing B1 lights so fast, hes making 30psi and im just hitting 10. I cant catch him after that. ive only got 80hp or so on him. If i can gently roll into for a few seconds before we nail it im fine, but i cant do that all the time. His Don M mach4s and B1 are in the 520hp range, and instant spool up. At the fall brawl this yr my truck wasnt spooling good on the dyno,(4. 10s aggravate this a lot), i was only hitting 45psi or so on the dyno. I start to get spool up at 1500rpm or so,but it takes til almost 2000 to get any real good pull out of it. I built a trans for a customer with a set of twins built by nathan wright, they were KSB1b/B2,and they spooled insanely fast, and is very responsive, but he has a DD cam,and the new blue chip rev box,and I have PDR cam,and a comp box. I have checked everything,no exhaust leaks, its just laggy. Also rode in Opies truck this yr,and drove it after he just did the twins,it felt the same as mine,as far as lag went. I just built my own wastegate on the hx40 to help with lag,its defintely better, because im working the 40 harder til i get to a certain drive pressure, then it dumps the pressure into the 3b. I think the PDR cam did help with spool up,esp under 1500,before it wouldnt start to spool til 1600+,not it starts around 1500,so i think it did help a little. It still just takes too long to get the first 5psi or so.

Drawson, you guys both have 12Vs they spool any turbo better. Also i tow pretty heavy with mine, and I have EGT issues when i think i shouldnt. I cant use full throttle with the comp on level 1 with Don M 2. 5s for more than 5 seconds and im at 1300,towing 9500lbs up 7% grade at about 75-80mph,(2300)rpm. Boost went to about 30-32PSI max,it was still climbing but i had to take my foot out of it for egt control. That was with the stock wastegate . i havent tried with my different one i just put on. My dads truck has the same setup but an HY35,and he can stay in his way longer than me. FYI ,my last 14/mi run was a 12. 38 at 109. 85,with the 6s. i weighed about 7550lbs,and i was at 64psi of boost and just tickled 1480 or so at the end of the 1/4 mile. Something is wrong, i know these twins rock(and they do) its just that id like a bit more response,at least the same as a big single.

The best and hardest hitting twins setup I have driven or rode in was Sled Pullers Mitchell Built setup that had a HX35/21 and a HT3B below. Spool up was insane enough for me to make Gene leave his hand prints in the right side of the dash when I whomped on her and sent the truck sideways. At the time the motor was fresh and no one other than him had driven it,till he came east to visit me,LOL. The whole time I was driving around York looking for victims he was continously reminding me it was HIS 800 number all over the truck and not mine. I just told him it wasn't my truck,LOL. Anyway, the point is here, the HX35/HT3B combo is one of the best street combo's for spool up. Just beware where you wastegate it due to excessive boost creep which will make for big drive pressures and many other problems you do not need to deal with.

PDR35 and HT3B working for me on the street, and the sled pulling track layed down a 646 this past weekend at Ken Imler Diesel Dyno Day.

BBD...

Seems like you lost almost a hundred HP,what gives dude????... ... ... . Andy

Got to finally take my first test ride and man what a difference. I have to admit they actually scared me once they came up to speed. I did notice the same laggy condition that many of you are speaking of. I will post some pics soon. Thanks Mark K. !!!

Just got the camera back... Will post some pics tonight or tomorrow. I can not believe that I had so many reservations about doing this. Mark had a great comparrison when he stated it is like driving an 8000lb sports car. All I need now is a clutch so I can floor the pedal and trasnfer all the power to the ground. If you do not have them trust everybody when they tell you that you need them. My father was the had the most negative comments prior to the installation. All I hear from him now is when are you going to put a set on mine. Of course I reply with his previous negative quotes just to rub it in.

Nice to hear you like them!

How are your EGTs? I expect them to be 2-400* lower.

I've spent the last 4 weekends re-engineering the B2 kit to keep the heat exchanger. Imagine a 650-700hp capable set if 35 twins that are a bolt on for an auto:)

The first 2 sets should leave monday and anothe set will follow the next weekend.

Have fun!!!

Mark

Mark, you are awesome!!! :) You read my mind with your last post! :-laf

I was hoping someone would come up with that exact kit, keeping the heat exchanger intact as well. Good job man! Great!!! Oo.

If that system works, hopefully expect a call from me in the future. Can't say when, time will tell. Hopefully sooner then later, you know. ;)

Imagine all of the 35s sitting around after being replaced... bet there's some deals to be had (as long the deals are made before the super-spooling, heat-exchanged twins are introduced to all)

Hum... ... there is only one person I've heard of that did 670 on #2 using a stock 35... ... but that was 14 months ago :p Times change!

turbo questions

i have a bht 4c that came off of my peterbuilt that flowed some impressive numbers. my ? is its for a big truck can it be made to run in a twin setup with my hy 35, or is this a bad idea or am i just going in the rong direction. . the reason is cause this turbo cost me around 2200 dollars and its now sitting in my garage and it would look sweet undr the hood of my dodge. i would appreciate it if anyone could help me out or maybe steer me in the right direction. . thanks

You might have made 690 or 700 on a 35/B2 instead of a 35/BHT3B ;):p

I've never tried to use a an HT4. You'd have to spin our b's pretty hard to light it properly. I don't know if a 24v would be able to utilize that big of a turbo. It'd be fun to try though:D
