USS Junkbox Under-Seat Storage

Well I've read all of the threads and still have a few questions.



I really think I could benefit from one of these, I'm always accumulating "stuff. " My main question is, does the top of the box fit flush with the bottom of the seat? That is to say, when you look under the seat, can you see any space between the box and the seat or does it look like a solid, stationary piece of plastic?



Basically, I'm wondering if anyone that didn't know what it was looked under my seat, would they be able to tell that it was a storage compartment? I ask this to deter nosy cops and also potential thieves. I want it to look like that there is nothing behind that piece of plastic, am I making sense to anyone?

I have the OEM box which is just like the USS Junk... It (my) box comes up close to the seat. If you bow down under the seat, you can see there is space. but from standing, you see only plastic. My box is full with tools and tow straps and such.

I meant to ask about the OEM Mopar box. I tried to get on Mopar 4 Less and something is wrong with their site. I read that the OEM boxes are more expensive though.



My main concern is that it doesn't look like a storage box. I would like to know that I could keep stuff in my truck that no one else could ever find. LOL, I'm sounding like a drug-smuggler or something - but you know what I mean, it seems like the first thing people do when they get into my truck is look in the glove box or the console! I guess I have nosy friends.

If you obtain a factory junk bin, be aware that different hinges are used on the rear seat that include mounting brackets for the junk bin . Guys have made bracketry up; I went the dealer route for the hinges cuz I had the money burning a hole in my pocket... at that time...



The rear portion of the factory junk bin is almost flush with the bottom of the seat. There are three pockets on the front of the bin that are more or less open, but stuff in there is impossible to see from outside.



Kops probably know about the junk bin; yours won't be the first or last CTD stopped for inspection. It is probably possible to disable the unlatching mechanism so that the un-uniformed can't lift up the seat and peer thereunder.



Geno's also sold (and probably still sells) a secure locking under-front-seat box that you might find useful.

If you want to "stealth" it, try finding some indoor-outdoor carpet that closely matches the factory carpet and cover it in that.

I've been wanting to get one of these too, but money is tight.

To answer your question, my USS fits tight up against the bottom of the seat, and I cannot see into it. But, IMO, it still looks like it could be a storage area, and even the dumbest mouthbreather would likely ponder whether the seat bottom lifts up.



Otherwise, it's a quality piece with utility value, and I'd buy it again.
