V-Notched 5th Wheel Tool Box

Reading the thread about replacing the damaged tailgate on the brother's truck I noticed that one or more TDR members recommended the V-notched bed-mounted tool box that many 5th wheel trailer pullers use.



Some might be interested to know about a cheaper source for these boxes. I recently discovered that the V-notched diamond tread aluminum tool boxes that sell for $400-$450 at truck equipment retailers or can be purchased by "president's club" members at Camping World on sale for about $350 can be special-ordered from Lowe's Home Improvement stores all over the nation for $274. I've got one on order and expect to pick it up in a few days. Lead time is reportedly about 10 - 14 days.

When I returned home this afternoon I found a message on my phone recorder from Lowe's Home Improvement in Goshen, IN. My special order V-notched Fifth Wheel tool box arrived in the store today and is ready for pickup when I'm in IN a week from today.

The Lowe's item number is: 62011171. The abbreviated description used by the Lowe's computer is: "V" Top, 2 lids, 5th.....



An associate can pull it up in any in-store computer by entering the number above.



I first discovered the item when I noticed a small plastic-laminated colored booklet attached to a vertical post in the aisle with truck items. This tool box was displayed.

Most of the cheaper boxes do not have a single large lid. So you can not put your golf clubs in them. The V-Box from Creative Industries does. Mine holds two golf bags, shoes, and the wheels from both carts. http://www.trucktrunk.com/ I also noticed that the unit that CW sells would most likely get in the way of the pin box mount with an extended pin box, as it is as high as the bed rails. I checked at our Lowes store here in Anchorage, and they found the V notched box on their computers, but said it was not available for special order in our area. Alaska is special like that some times :-{}



I found a DeeZee 11 inch high rectangular 5th wheel box at a local truck accessory shop for $314.
