Same problem.

I've been fighting this problem for a couple years. Had the vacum pump replaced by dealer (still leaks) now its a slow leak and I'm going to ignore it for awhile. I heard the comment at a dealer " I never saw one that didn't leak". Someone posted this number yesterday for info on the seal. 308 632 8200 also this email -- email address removed -- hope this helps.

Try www.epm.com. Looks like they have a pretty comprehensive stock of seals. I purchased a couple of seals from applied materials, but I think that these were the single lip as it still leaks slightly.

if I remember I'll take a picture of the seal tonight. When I did my replacement it was w/ a double lipped nitrile for $2. 50 from Bearings Inc. (Cummins Npower sourced it for me)... 17k later no leaks!

I would appreciate a picture. I had this leakage start a number of years ago. I got a seal from Cummins , put haven't changed it yet. Now I read that you can't get this seal from Cummins , so I am confused  .

Just wondering If I'm barking up the right tree :D

Thanks.

Joe

Joe, just because the seal isn't listed as a Cummins part doesn't mean they couldn't get the correct one for you. Some Cummins dealers take their service further than just their engines and will source any parts they need to get a rig rolling.

The vacuum pump is made by Wabco (European). I have the OEM seal number at home, but much like failing to take a pic... I failed to look for the #.

I just took a picture of the seal, so lets hope it goes up. If you need another view pm me... part number edited in at the bottom.

OEM part #: DPSM. 28387V

Mfr. appears to be either GACO or ANGUS or could be hyphenated... GACO is a quarter turn to the left of the part number ANGUS a quarter turn to the right.

My cheap replacement part was made by TCM...

TCM Part 28X38X7TC

How important is the Viton material? I can find seals all day long that are nitrile or silicone, but no Viton. I can't see the heat being at the 400* that would be needed to justify the Viton. What gives?

Does anyone know if there is a problem when removing the Vac/PS assembly from the engine. I'm wondering if there might be a concern regarding the gears that drive it and the injection pump. I'd hate to fix an oil leak and end up messing up my pump timing .

thanks

I suppose that you could mess up the pump timing if you put a hand full of 10mm nuts in there and the wrench too before you put the vacuum pump back on!! Short of that I'm don't see how, but if there is a a way to mess it up I suppose some one could do it.

Thanks for the picture. The part I picked up from Cummins years ago is different. I must have the gasket that goes where the pump mounts to the engine. That is what I was wondering.

Thanks.

w cummings :

the leak appears to be from the area between the vac and ps pump when viewed from under the truck.

I've cleaned the entire area a couple of times and even hung a clean cloth in the area, the oil always returns to this area.

My concern with the gears was the the injectioon pump gear might turn when the vac/ps pump is out, so my question is 2 part, could it turn ( as long as you didn't try) and if it were to turn some, would this effect the injection pump and engine timing?

thanks for the reply.

Rick:)

No problem removing the PS and vacuum pumps, there is no way you can change the timing unless you pull the gear off the injection pump. Hard to do without working at it.

great, thanks for the reply

now I'll have to track down some of the double lip seals.

please let me know if you know of a source off hand.

like to get this oil leak fixed up, it's really starting to fry my bacon. :(

I just love my Ram, and after I get enough Luke's links or Lindstads on it, maybe I'll love it more.

wonder if anyone makes a repair kit for the sway bar end link?

perhaps I'll check some other forums on that.

Rick;)

the gear on the vacuum pump runs on the cam, not the injector pump gear

BTW since you are driving a CUMMINS powered truck ya should be able to spell my name :)
