What is the valet switch everybody is talking about? does it limit the travel of the fuel shutoff solenoid? How does it apply to the 12valve? I have seen the on computer controlled diesels but not manual ones.

Thanks Brian

Cuts off the boost going to the AFC housing, limiting AFC movement, thus not allowing the govenor arm to contact the fuel plate.

PDR has them for about $90

I ran the boost line from the intake to a standard ball valve that I can easily reach under the dash back to the AFC for a "poor man's" valet switch. All done for less than $10. 00 and a trip to the hardware store. As signal pointed out by cutting the boost signal to the AFC, the lever never moves out of the way of the governor lever thus limiting fuel.

If you do this could this improve your gas mileage on a truck running empty and not towing? In a sense you would limit the power and fuel of the truck. I guess it would be the same result as driving with the boost gauge and keeping your boost low. Maybe a bad idea but just a thought I had.

To a point, you will get better mileage. It fools the truck into thinking you have a light foot instead of a heavy one. :D My truck gets the same mileage, either way, if I drive with a light foot.

I think a valet would be good if you let someone else drive your bombed truck.

Cuts the power down, So they dont get stupid.

Or If you were setup to hot for towing, Plate and big injectors. Then the valet would cutout the fuel plate and hopefully could tow heavy without getting to toasty.

If I go with stage 2 injectors one day. I will probably need a valet

I got mine at Lowes, Brass fitting in the plumbing aisle, i only turn mine on when I get new tires, or do a inspection, keep people from doing things they don't know anything about. mind you my hx40 has its own wastegate built in, as I had to remove the stock afc wastegate line.

oh, on the dyno 290 valet on, 432 valet off, load dyno

alright thanks where did you guys get yours at?

Grainger will have what you need. You will need some additional fittings and line and such to complete the install.

Or if you got some type of variable valve you could dial in your HP :)

sweet thanks guys with the stuff in my sig this will be nice to have plus the wife is a little scare of the power now so that way I can detune it quick for here if she want to drive it to the store.

Little off topic...

Anybody have a picture of the PDR valet switch? Is it just a fancy electric solenoid valve? Can it be set to open/close easily for certain pressures? I remember reading on here somewhere that a person could use this for an electronic wastegate controller. If so, I sense another winter project coming along for my (3rd gen)...

I can get a pic if you would like.

Yes it is just an electronic solenoid valve.

It is not variable like a hobbs switch, it is on or off.

As far as a wastegate mod you are probably thinking of a hobbs switch.

If you could post a pic that would be great. You are correct - I was thinking of using the Hobbs switch.

-Thanks-

For a 3rd gen? ... got to be worth 100+hp :D :D

Got some pics of the PDR valet switch in my pics under the valet sw. I used the PDR valet switch to control the wastegate. Mounted it on the passenger side fender well.

Thanks for the picture references!

Are those PDR solenoid valves "normally open" or "normally closed". I think I would want one that is "normally open" in case of failure/power loss.

Fail Safe

I would want the normally closed energized to open. Reason for this is fail safe. yes if the coil fails on the valve then the AFC will be in valet at all times. if the valve was normally open enerized to close for valet and the coil fails then no more valet for anyone and then you are relying on the person that might be driving your truck to pay attention to the EGT's and Boost. Most of the time people have the attitude of its not my truck so why should I have to worry. :{ That is the feeling from people driving company vehicles.
