I am in the midst of doing a five year/ 50,000 mile service on my '07, 5. 9, G56, 4X4. I decided after reading here that I was going to adjust my valves. I set them at . 010 intakes and . 025 on the exhausts. I took my time and got accurate feel on the drag with the feeler gauge. That #6 cylinder access leaves a lot to be desired!
The valves were loose but not too out of specs.
I also took apart the plastic air silencer tube and removed the baffles and super glued back together the end. It is the sleeve located between the rubber turbo intake and air box boots.
I started the engine and it sounded about the same but just a tad quieter. It idles smother. I don't know if it was the valve adjust or removing the baffles in the intake tube but it spools up much faster now and less smoke.
I intend on doing a rear diff service, (with the free spin hubs on the front, it rarely turns), coolant flush, brake fluid flush and maybe a trans oil change. (I put Synchromesh oil in it when I did my clutch)
