Decided to spend some 'quality time' with the CTD this afternoon and check the valve lash. They were all off. Way off. The #3 intake valve was around . 052" :eek: and the rest were just as bad or worse - whoever set these must have been on something. The truck only has 67,000 miles. Adjusted intakes to . 010" and exhaust to . 020". It's like a whole different truck now - smoother running, less noise. The loud noise that was coming from the air cleaner box is gone, and so is the 'knocking' sound that I thought might have been a bad injector or something worse. Definately worth the 1 1/2 hours spent outside on a hot Texas afternoon. Now I just have to fix the rear door that won't open...

Interesting. I adjusted mine recently for the first time at 124k. ALL valves were way loose! The motor is quieter than when new. Like you said, it makes less noise out the air filter box. That odd knock that it has had since new is gone. It idles much smoother. I wish I had done it sooner! I set mine at . 008 and . 018.

I've done mine several times... (95 k total mi. on truck)

I like . 008" and . 018" too!

Yea, that is what I was counting on as well. Most have said that at 100k they were still really close. MINE sure weren't!

Did mine @ 100,059, they were all really close to the 0. 010 & 0. 020, set them @ 0. 010 & 0. 020 as suggested, although I purchased w/75,000 so who knows? Presently @ 149,+++ and going strong (knock on wood).
