Corey-

Sounds like you may have a few loose valves, but the 24v engines are supposed to go to 150K or something outrageous like that before the first overhead. First thing I'd do is take off the box, and see if that changes anything. Repeat after me "I am my own warranty station. " But, I would think something else. Try the 24v forum. Not sure about the electonic engines.

Pastor Bo-ahhbb; is he supposed to be in here, even though he has no generational issues like some in here? I think he may be lost. ;) But then again, we all are to an extent.

The boost gauge seems confident where ever it swings. I'm pretty confident that its something in the valve train, and leaning towards a valve spring or something...

I guess there was a reason for getting 3k back for taxes this year

Thanks guys, I'll let ya know what ends up happening. It may just be some weird fluke, I was mostly worried about it being the exhaust brake was the cause, but I'm sure the dealership will tell me what I did to void the warranty... :)

Thanks again!

Hey guys,

Just thougt I'd let you in on what was determined. Well the valvetrain is good to go, but its been determined that there is one of two options... Long block or short block... The service Tech told me the #2 Cyl gernaded and what I was mostly hearing was the piston slap, he said he was amazed it made it in the dealership under its own power. Also stated this isn't from anything I did, just a weird failure. He stated that most of the failures of this type occur at the rear of the engine, and this is the first time he heard of it at the front of the engine.

So, I guess I'm waiting for the rep to show up on Monday to make the determination...

well, I hope for your sake they cover it under warranty! that sounds expensive! my neighbor just rebuilt his 98' CTD and it cost him $1800 doing all the labor himself, I cant imagine what it would cost to have the dealer do it labor and all! I know a guy in Bountiful who works for a Dodge dealership by day and does alot of side work for a reasonable price, If you need I could give you his #, just PM me.

In the heave truck world a lot of the time they just say fix that cylender and get it back on the road.

Yes, in the marine world as well.

It is an "official" Cummins repair proceedure to just repair the damaged cylinder... . either by honing/boring o/s or sleeving that cylinder. I know a guy that did that to twin Cummins in a boat last year... one cyl in one engine and two cyls in the other. Engines run mint.

I also did that to a Chevy 292 gasser once... . still running 15 years later with one cyl sleeved.

Good luck.
