Looking for a metal valve stem replacement that will allow me to check tire pressure and add air without removing the tire. Have tried valve stem extenders but they have a problem with leaking and since I have a large slide in I need something that will handle 80 psi of air pressure and large pot holes:rolleyes:

Here's what I did.

Tried the long chrome metal valve stem extensions for the inside duals, they are about 4 or 5" inches long. Had concerns about sticks or rocks causing a problem if wedged between the duals just right. Now I run short metal stems and when I check air or adjust pressures, I just screw one of the extensions on and remove when finished.

Only takes a few seconds and no worrys.

My local tire shop had the metal stems in stock. The metal extensions I got at a big truck stop.

Metal stems are common at most shops, if your's doesn't have them, a little shopping around should find one that does. You may need to look for one that services big trucks.

NAPA has some.......

I tried the braided hoses. Worked well as far as holding air. Had to really tighten them though. One time one of em blew apart though. They warranted it but I hated the fact that I drove with a flat for a while. (Didn't notice right away).

When I got the new tires on I went with a solid extender that's bent at 130 degrees. It works fine for the outer. I still have a braided from the inner. My wheel holes don't line up to use one of the longer solid metal ones.

I have one inch extensions on both inner and outside. They enable me to check the outside with the angled head and the inner with the straight end. I had fumbled with this chore for quite awhile until a trucker noticed me messing around and clued me into gauges that have both straight and angled heads. Its the little things in life. Anyway, I don't trust the extensions much even tho they have never leaked so I thump the tires a lot.

 I have had the braided wire extensions on my motorhome and have them on my dually... they work great with no signs of leaking... ever! I did tighten them well and do check my pressures before a trip... no sweat. I find the extensions very convenient. I used to have the solid 1 1/2 inch extensions for the inside tire that allows the filler/gauge end to easily attach and had a leak problem... . You pays your money and you takes your choice. ;)
