Dealer in Medford Oregon slipped this reprogramming in during an oil change without telling me. Now my 2019 3500 High Output gets approximately 3 mpg less both towing and not towing. I calculated that this recall to my new truck will cost me over $12,000 over the life of the truck. The truck is using greater amounts of DEF also.
I have been in touch with the California Air Resources Board and Ram Corporate who both say they are working with Cummins on this issue. My truck was 50 State Emission Compliant when I bought it in December 2019 and passed the California Smog Test. Very happy with the truck except for this issue. I am hoping that TDR will do an in depth article of VB6 and it's ramifications.

My 2019 is great aside from guzzling DEF. I used 9.5 gallons in 4900 miles (only towed heavy for 600 miles of that). I was at my local dealer to ask about a software update to correct it and they said there was......Now I'm wondering if I should leave it alone because the fuel mileage with this new truck is fantastic.

Lots of folks complaining about the DEF consumption of the new CTD on all the forums I visit. There seems to be a pretty wide gap in MPG between the SO and HO, given the modest performance difference.

MStapleton, as bad as it is to have lost MPG, there are many complaining of serious surging after VB6, so it could be worse. Join the reflash club.

I just had VB6 performed last Thursday... Gained 2.7mpg and I'm not kidding. Still on the same tank since the flash but I'm pleased so far. No issues, No surging and the pedal still feels the same. I was flashed from software P/N 52371931"AF" to P/N 52371931"AI"... From what I've read, the AI is the latest version and on the standard output 6.7's there hasn't been any reports of funkiness... I think all the surging and issues are with the HO 6.7's. My 2019 does drink a lot of DEF, Hopefully I'll see a little reduction of usage. Your paperwork from the service department will show what version you were and what version you were flashed to... If you were flashed to version "AG" you can still go to "AI"... Just not backwards.

My truck was exactly opposite. I never once had a tank over 16.5 mpg before the update and now it's a regular occurrence to get over 18. I've now had 20mpg complete tanks on long trips (hand calc'd) and I couldn't do that before. My DEF consumption got better as well.

I consume 6.5 gallons DEF in 2815 miles went back to another local Ram dealer his answer was same BS i had from my Ram dealer " that's normal " for '19 Ram. I only tow less than 5K !
