Well guys... it was bound to happen. My VE pumped bus #3 (1989 Bluebird TC2000) left the kids stranded on the road.

Unlike the new buses, which require towing to dealership for replacement injection pump, the repair involved re-connecting the pump's solenoid power wire. About seven second repair job.

:D :D :-laf :-laf ;)

She is driving a 1989 model cause her "new" Cummins powered bus is back at the dealership for "fuel system warranty reapairs".

You should have seen that drivers face when I turned the key and she roared back to life again after a seven second repair  Think I'll scrap the spade connector and use an eyelet on the solenoid stud.

BTW, Cummins has recognized the potential problem with the ISB engine in a school bus and has issued a recall on lift pump and injection pump. I get new injectioN pumps, lift pumps and the addition of a lift pump pressure sensor. I'll still have the same problem, however, now the engine warning lamp will illuminate when I loose lift pump pressure.

You'll only get a new VP if it's a recon made during 03 or 04 or your engine serial falls within a certain range...

You do get the low pressure switch a lift pump with a bypass valve in it though, and a nifty chrome "0504" campaign sticker for your tan valve cover :)

I've done about 50 of these recalls...

Also, they'll do an ECM update if necessary. The older calibrations won't respond to pin U on your 23 pin oem connector being grounded out, which causes the light to light. The fuel pressure switch is a pretty simple design, just grounds to the fuel filter when there is no pressure.

not to hijack this thread, but randomly, this same thing happened to me last night, left me stranded on the side of the road for less than a minute... Gotta love the Cummins. Thanks to this board, the first thing I thought of when it stopped like that was the fuel solenoid shut off wire... thanks tdr members...

I have had the OEM VP-44 pumps replaced as well as reconditioned pumps. My dealership told me they will perform said champain to all my ISB's 1999 and up.

I love the chrome valve cover decal. :)

I just KNEW jay would say something 'bout me slow'n down. LOL
