Replace Lever

Just got the price on the broken lever, $400 and the shop waited till after they had the pump off and dissambled to give me that piece of news. ! So the total is $1,250 for the rebuild. Not very happy about them waiting till money already spent to give me the part price. Anyone out there know if they are close to the correct amount. ?

Pump Woes !

Final outcome, total cost $1,250 to the shop. Replaced fulcrum lever $400, 2 new springs $43. 05, supply pump $150, return bolt $13, 366 spring $18, and a bushing $25, seal kit $18 . All included in above price. My cost of education, $400 (I broke the lever), plus 1 week off work while learning (over $1200). !!**Do not force the top back on, it should settle in place easy like. The lever does not like to be bent and then straightened back out. A reseal job on the top is pretty easy just keep the above in mind and make careful records of lever index mark or location. Some new parts cost a whole lot of money.

That sounds about it. That which remained was labor or labour if your from England.

Most pump rebuilds consist only of complete tear down, seals and bushings with some springs thrown in. Then reassemble and flow test. I don't know where the term rebuild falls into the equation, but that is the term addressed.

As you discovered, the hard parts last and last, such as the rollers/cam hyd head assy etc. And, the hard parts are big $$$.

I'm curious about the supply pump, and why it was $150? Sounds like you need some Astro Lube. The high labor I guess I can understand, but my local shop only charges $450 for springs, seals, and upgrades. Plus, they'll set the flow to whatever you ask for, and still warranty it.

Prices

Further back in the thread, I asked if anyone knew prices because I felt that $400 for the Fulcrum Lever and $150 for the pump sounded out of this world to me. I did ask the shop to verify the price of parts for me and he stated " that is the actual cost we put them in all the time. " I intend to find out what a Bosch shop will charge me for these parts. These guys have a very good multi-state reputation for their work, but I was not happy with the price charged for parts. I did find a parts list but have yet to find a supplier who will sell me parts and then how much ! R C
