Just getting started decking out my new 2006 and have to start with the small stuff till the finances heal up again!! Just was wondering about the Ventshades and whether to go with the standard tape on the outside type or the ones that slip into the window channel.

Your opinions please as I don't want to do this twice.

Thanks all.

I have had 4 set's of the kind that slip into the window channels - WeatherTech is the brand. Love them, including on my "05 CTD.

i have the in-channel weather tech as well. i like the look but i had to put some foam weatherstrip on the front ones to keep them from rattling. i also had issues w/ the double-sided tape not sticking on the back ones so after a few months i had to pull them back off and put new tape on.

overall, i like them and would get them again. i just took a little tinkering to get them how i wanted.

also something to be aware of; by installing the ventshades it makes the blind spot created by the a-pillar even bigger. just something that i noticed.

I have had both kinds, stick on and in channel. In channel is much better as far as I am concerned. I have had ventashade and weather tech. Both were functional and I did not have problems with either. It was the first mod I did after picking up current truck. I can not do without them anymore, had them on the last four trucks.

Do heed the warning about the BLIND CANYON being even bigger with the vent shades. One of the few things I don't like about the truck is the terrible blind spots on both sides with the A pillars.

I put the Ventshade tape on type on my 2001 and the in channel type on my 2005.

I like the in channel type but they do have a tendency to rattle a little with the window down. They are very easy to install.

They tape on types are okay, but everyone I've had (on my CTD or other cars) have had a problem with the tape eventually coming loose (especially at the front) and I've had to tape them back down. Also, water can get between the tape and the sill and blow into the vehicle. With the in channel type this can't happen. JMHO... ;)

I've got ventshade and the shade is separating from the tape. I'm going to have to retape them. I like how they look better than the in channels though.

I've never had the in-channel type, but when I broke my tow mirror, I was hoping to put on the original until the new glass came in. I couldn't swap mirrors because the Vent Shade overlaps the mirror housing.

Just installed a set on both my trucks. Ventshade tape type. I went with the tape style this time because I had just tinted the windows and the channel type will pinch the window tighter at the top and "could" make the tint peel up at the edge. When I tint windows I go all the way to the beveled edge so you can't tell were the window ends and the tint starts.

In short - I have had both types and have had no problems with either. I have had the tape type on my wife's vehicle for four years with no problems at all.

DITTO,on the weather Techs. Mine have held up well on my 2004 :D coobie

I have three sets ventshade on the 98. 5 and two sets of stampede chrome tape ons. no trouble with any of them. The chrome plated ones look awhsome and really dress them up.

What is the advantage of running these at all? Does it allow open windows on the highway without wind niose or are they mostly for shade?
