I had this same problem, but a little wrose 30,000 or so miles ago.

what happens is when I'm slowing down from 20mph - 0mph the rear end gets all jumppy. Before it was from 30mph - 0, no matter how you slowed down. Slam on the breaks, or coast slowlly. In gear or outa gear,

Me and the tech tried tire rottation, re surface the rotors, inspected every aspect we could. Finally the tech put it on the hoist and started the truck up and put it gear with the rear suspention dropped down and the truck just about bounced off the hoist! :)

So a close inspection of the drive saft was had and they replaced the entire thing. Problem solved.

So.....

So the other day the vibration is back, just not as bad. It tends to wanna get jumppy on road surfaces that are not "perfect". So, newly paved roads I can't get it to vibrate at all. This time, it will start at about 20mph to 0mph

Has this happened to anyone before?

What we saw that looked funky on the first drive shaft was the center mount looked "ripped", The rubber thing in the middle. That's why it was replaced. This time, it looks fine, looks a little loose tho, like it's easy to push around. but it doesn't look "broke"

I'm wondering if it's just u-joints that are acting up?

Possibly shocks are bad after 61,000 miles?

The center thing is broke again,

this should still be covered under warrenty right? heck, what about the front u-joints. I think I hear some "grinding" noises when I turn sharp at times.

Jason,

I would bet on U joints being bad (one or more). I would replace with greasables and the ones that are bad are: TCase joint, followed by rear joint. Center joint should be decent.

I had the same thing happen at 69. 9K miles. The slow down vibration started very suddenly, almost like flipping a switch. It was a U joint problem. A bad U joint can ruin the center bearing rubber mount as well. I had a 70K extended warranty and DC replaced the rear drive shaft complete. I then purchased a front drive shaft for around $230 bucks and replaced it myself. Your grinding could be other components in the front drive line.

I'm still under the 7/70 warrenty... And I'm lazy. I'll see if I can get the deler to warrenty labor with my parts.

At the same time I have that pinion seal to replace up front. There are freaking torx bits holding it to the front yolk! Couldn't find a way to pop them sucksers outwith nothing close to the right kinda tools.

And things are at a $100 debuctable for labor... I suppose I have some calls to make tomorrow

Any suggestions on good quality greasable joins?

I had the same issue..... u-joint starts to freeze up and the driveshaft vibrates inside the center bushing/bearing as u slow down (off the throttle).

I got sick/tired of dealing with u-joints (and trying to correcty shim the center bearing) I replaced the driveshaft with a one piece shaft. No issues since... about 30k miles.

I have a 30' deckover gooseneck which I tow (along with a 24' Thule Box trailer). Heaviest so far is 9700# of stainless steel over 300 miles from CT. Total trailer weight was right around 14. 5k#. I only use the truck for towing or runs to the hardware store, etc. My daily commuter is now the VW Jetta TDI.

fixed, supposaly

So, called the dealership and things are fixed.

They replaced just the center u-joint, dispite the fact that the one on the transfercase has the same grease flinging on the undercarage. The one on the diff was clean.

They also repaired the front pinion seal for me, that was leaking slowly.

Not bad for $100 deductable warrenty claim. And I had my edge stuff on there aswell! :). I hope to talk to the diesel machanic about the weird clicking I hear and my coolant leak. Get that looked on my trip, now next month.
