It sounds like the 4x4 seems to have most of the vibration problems,it makes sense to use a 4x2 in all but extreme cases. Back in the 80's I had a 4x4 and went places that I shouldn't have, changed to 4x2 in the late 80's and have remained stuck free since, that includes many years working the ranch in severe winters,it's all in the mind.

The dealers have access to several vibration analyzers that will pinpoint the vibration. The simple one is an EVA (electronic vibration analyzer) and was purchased by many dealers. It is also an essential tool for GM dealers, so if your dealer is dualed with a GM franchise, they have one. The newest and easiest to use is the Vtronics MTS 4100 analyzer. It will give you the vibrating component without having to do the math. About 100 dealers were loaned 4100's by DC to see if they could repair vibrations easier. The trick is locating the dealer near you that has one.

Someone mentioned the "drone" vibration. That is a first order drive line vibration interacting with the normal third order engine vibration from the 6 cyl Cummins.

We used the 4100 on my truck in troubleshooting. It was really inconclusive for the reasons mentions on my previous post. They attach it to the RH front seat frame. The vibration on the 4100 could show reduction, however the vibration in the pedals and wheel were very pronounced. We came to the conclusion road testing was best in my case. Could be very different in others and I think all the dealers have this tool. I know DC Customer Service has a publication that recommends using the 4100 to isolate the vibrations. TT
