My Son was doing some maintenance on his 15 3500 SRW RAM today and noticed this at both axle ends. He has 47K on the truck with extended warranty.

Do the new trucks have hydraulic parking brakes? It looks like the left side might have a cable but not the right? Any chance the leak is brake fluid? Seems strange that a wheel seal would leak outside the backing plate.

The cable is there. On the right side, it's flipped and the lever/ cable end is on top of the tube. The caliper bracket is ambidextrous. Looks like a blown seal to me, and it's wicking on the grime. Perhaps a bad run of seals? Is it a pattern yet? Anyone else?
Another observation, I see it's a true 4 channel ABS on that truck. I see a wheel sensor there. When did it move from the center of rear housing?

My past 14 2500 had the passenger side leaking so bad it would run to the ground and the wheel was flinging the fluid. The driver side was just slightly wet. I had them replaced at 14,700 miles. My 15 3500 is dry so far at 23,000.

One of mine looks a bit greasy. The other looks dry.

But it also looks like someone got under there with a hacksaw blade and stole my spare?????

Might be that i over-filled the rear diff 2 years ago when I changed the fluid and it leaked out through a vent on one side?

Just checked mine at 35K it's dry as a popcorn fart! Our trucks were ordered at the same time and build not too far apart. #ad

I doubt a saw cut,no access with the tire in place.if they are not snug to the bed the will move and fatigue

Maybe it worked itself loose. I almost wondeted if i had it too tight. The spring in the bottom plate was significantly loaded.

Holy cow! I just put mine back under the truck and it was heavy. Did you lose it while driving down the road then? I need to make sure mine is not too tight.
Once i saw a guy with his spare real loose. It eventually pivoted in the front and caught the road. Then the truck rear popped up as the tire was wedged between the road and the trucks bed. Then it broke the cable and rotated on through tossing the rear of the truck up. It was crazy and dangerous.
So was the cable rolled down and cut? Or is it still in the rolled up position signifying it broke?

I may have lost it on I 95. I heard honking a few months ago and never saw anything in my mirrors. But it sounded like someone was distressed about something. I really don't know. I guess if it started spinning, it wouldn't take long for it to lop off. I really thought it was stolen. I know it wasn''t loose when i mounted it. It was winched on until the spring was tightly loaded. Sorry to take this thread in the wrong direction.

A father was just killed via a run away tire/wheel. His daughter was also in the car. She spent many days in the hospital. Was good to bring this subject up guys.

^^^^^ I agree! My new to me MC trailer has a spare attached to the bottom, the tire was loose but as soon as I aired it up it was tight again.
