When we grow trees in the state of Jefferson (oops, I mean far northern CA) we don't mess around. I have a couple of 200 footers in my back yard and no body around here ever notices. Of course, they are crowded by the other 40 or so trees that are a bit shorter.

Looks like you still have enough power surplus to toot your own horn? Fruit is also grown in South Texas and Florida. You can keep all the pistachios, walnuts, etc. , we prefer pecans here. You can keep all the artichokes, figs, kiwifruit, etc. , I don't like them anyway. We have plenty of dairys in this state, yes, we've got milk. Airplane parts are made in a great many states. We make some of those also. Satellite components? Tracking systems? Sorry, but I don't think you have the corner on that market anymore either. You can keep your movies, I think most of them are crap and contributing to some of the problems with our young people. We make wine here also. So does Texas, Arkansas, etc. Keep your wine, we can always make moonshine. The next time someone wants to build a power plant in Crazyfornia, go ahead and protest it, but take your flashlight because the lights may not come on when you get home that night.

You may have the current Silicon Valley but I know of at least 4 companies moving to Lockhart, Tx. I left Calif. in '92 and have not one time felt a longing or need for anything there.

Here's my reply to that letter. In an itemized format for easier understanding.

1. Fruits and Nuts? Keep them. Personally, I think most of the state is fuits and nuts.

2. Milk? Keep it. When all your milk goes bad, I have some friends who will gladly sell you some from THE dairy state. My friends will welcome the new business.

3. Software? Fine. With no electricity, all the software in the world won't do you any good.

4. Airplanes? Knock yourselves out. I bought a Dodge and BOMBed it. I don't need no stinkin' airplane.

5. Email? Maybe writing letters might be a good thing. Not everyone has a computer, you know.

6. Movies? No big loss. The theater is a good form of entertainment. Not to mention books. Besides, today's movies only pollute your mind (tounge in cheek).

7. Wine? Oh, your killing me. Sour mash, Burbon, and beer can all be substitutes for your whine, err wine. Did I mention that some of the finest wine, I've ever tasted, comes from Germany?

Please forward this to the nearest Californian who believes that they are not responsible for the current situation and that the whole country should bail them out of this mess. With my regards of course.

As a side note, some of my best friends are stuck in CA and I wish they would leave. So I know there are level headed people in that state. They are just getting shafted by those whiny, short-sighted, poorly educated, lazy pieces o' crap people we hear so much about. It is truly sad.

We do have somthing no other state has... NO SMOKING IN PUBLIC PLACES. Best thing California ever did. And if you think Californias energy problems don't apply to you... just wait, there a commin wherever you live! even TEXAS. Large Conglomerate multi national companies like ENRON don't care who you are or where you live, they just fu*k you for money. In fact, Texas is very likely the next target. All those big energy companies use Texas as a base of operations because of lower taxes and it's much easier to rape the land with impunity.
I'm no tree hugger but conservation at every level is a must no matter where you live. If you don't have smog yet it's comming too. All of societies problems surface here first because of the high population density not because of our outlook ,read fruit and nuts. Take heed, trouble is on its way. Even in Texas.

Unfortunately, I have to put up with all the kommunist nonsense of Governor Gay Davis and all the rest of the holier than me left wingers here, but for one reason I am glad this power "crises" is turning out so nasty: I have heard rumors that our beloved Governor may be considering a run for the White House in thr future, and hopefully this mess will be bad enough to remain in the minds of the nation to keep him from ever getting anywhere near Washington D. C.

Paul R. Haller-
If you think society's problems are surfacing in Calif. because of population density and not your outlook it's no wonder you have the problems you have. Here's hoping you keep your outlook, your fruits and nuts, and your tree huggers in Calif. and not infest the rest of this country with your "our way is better" attitude. Don't you even stop to think about the phrase: "No smoking in public places"? The key word is "PUBLIC". Public places are for ALL people, not just the ones you think are politically correct. The next thing will be no diesels on the expressway because they stink or don't sound right. I sign off hoping that all the people with your mind set remain in Calif. and live blissfully ever after.

I see I got your "pilot" lit again1 #ad
:p Of course you don't need anything that CA provides... just like debating with a ill informed child! Mr Haller missed one BIG point, while Texico I mean Texas is the center for operations of so many large utility companies they are owned by JAPAN! You may think you got the bull by the horns when all you got is bull$hit!

Compare all you wish, you can never deny that CA has the 6th largest economy in the world! No one comes close... why, cause CA is the golden state. Those "roots" are what built CA as well as Las Vegas (not the MOB). So the UNITED States government is too ignorant to recognize the simple fact that we are UNITED and must continue to be as such or we are doomed as a country! CA may be the first in the demise of a great nation, do we allow states to hang out to dry in time of need or do we work as a country! We, America, will run to almost any other country in their time of need but we are to ignorant to see the potential failure of our own. Sad but true.

Hey Stat, I would love to see some supporting documentation on the Japan owned utilities here in TEXAS. I'm just interested in facts, not a flame war... ... ... . yet.

Radixr, I think it's safe to say that those of us here in California who frequent this forum had no part in electing any of the cast of characters you mentioned.

Hey Sam I agree completely. I do not think a single person on this forum from the great CA. voted for the above named folks. I truely believe that many in California will suffer because of the idiocity of a few.

I have rethought my above response to Statland, I DO NOT wish any proof of Jap ownership of Tex. utilities. Instead we should understand why most folks are upset with the way the power situation is being handled. Most folks do not have the time or inclination to dig deeply to try to understand what has happened. They here officials from the state badmouthing everyone except their inept administrations. These are the folks that most outside of Ca. lash out at. They cannot vote for anyone in the state goverment hence they are left to effectively "throw stones". Now remember they are throwing at the elected officials and the little folks such as the good citizens on this forum from CA. , get in the way. In talking with others they feel that the State goverment needs to be treated like the children they are acting like!!! This will obviously hurt many innocent people. But this is all those idiots (state goverment) understand. They need to be made to suffer (financialy). This will do nothing but hopefully p!ss-off the citizens and convince them to vote out the scum that is now in office.

This situation with electricity can be compared to the Tex. oil bust of the early, mid eighties. Houston and the rest of the state literally died. Folks up north loved it because they had cheap winter fuel. No one stepped in and helped us directly and we survived. I realize that it was not a state problem but things do have a way of working themselves out. Because of that reality check, today ALL super major oils base their business plans on $16. 00 to $20. 00 a barrel oil, any more is pure gravy. They do this because in the 80's they believed that oil would stay at $35. 00++++ a barrel. This is what is happening in Ca. with electricity, but the state has gotten involved and really screwing things up.

Think of it like this, substitute Electricity, Oil for the word Oxygen... . Sex and Oxygen are alot alike, you don't miss them until your not getting one..... Have a good day.

SLVRBLT,

I couldn't care less if you choose to smoke and shorten your life and the lives of your loved ones who choose to live with you, but I insist on having that choice... not having it forced on me by you. I support the no smoking in public places without reservation.
Go ahead and label me a,"Our way is better attitude" and I WILL live "blissfully ever after" as long as you, and others like you, don't smoke at my table.

OH YEAH!!!??? Well, down here in Florida we've got... . citrus canker, and... and... old people... . and, and... . millions of raft people... and, and... .
