Letter to China

Brian,

I had the albacore troller I was running at the time anchored in Port San Luis when there was the big protest at Diablo. Stopped and talked with the cops on the other side of the line from the hippies. After chatting awhile I told them not to spend all their overtime in one place. They just grinned at me. The worse thing the power companies did was stop building nukes. They even closed the one at Humboldt Bay.

I remember stopping at a cafe in SLO that weekend and when I asked for the non-smokeing section they told me the whole place was non-smokeing. My wife and I didn't know how to act. Of course, on the way out an old guy who was coughing and leaning on his cane stopped to light up right in the door way.

SLO is a nice place for sure.

The state is talking more & more about siezing the generating plants - presumably the ones belonging to PG&E & SCE. I thought part of the 'deregulation' package was that PG&E & SCE had to sell off all their generating capability in the state and would be transmission providers only? Is this correct? Or are state politicos talking about siezing 3rd party generating plants?

Brian

I haven't heard anything about third party generating plants except they aren't getting paid by PG&E. The plant on Humboldt Bay that burns wood waste claims that they may go broke if they don't get paid. I'm suspicious about the whole mess. PG&E gave all their management BIG bonuses and then filed for bankruptcy claiming they're broke. ???? #ad

Maybe they are, but all I've heard is the BS in press conferences.

It is more simplistic than we will ever know! Just hours before fileing for chapter 11 PG&E gave all their "big wigs" cash gifts and such. The courts should drag their a$$es in and prosecute them for fraud... if it were you or I we would be going bye bye for a long time!

GREED is powering up the GRID, pay attention as you will be next! Lets face it thats how those mega corporations got where they are by sucking your and my blood!

Got to be the cheese! You bet it is, rats love that stuff!

Paul, Just and FYI. A lot of Cities in my area in Minnesota are adopting smoking bans. Personally I think it is a good thing to have a ban in pubilc places, buy if people want to smoke outside, let them do it. Some cities are having good luck with it, some aren't. I guess time will tell.
Corey

Smoking bans? How about ban the "pitch the burnt butt where ever"
Oh yea, that is littering. $300 fine most places.
How many smokers have you heard get busted for it?
NONE.

How 'bout helmet laws? No victim. Too much government intervention? In CA. at least the LA area, there is a helmet law for kids under 16 on bicycles. It just seems to me that we have more relevant matters to tend to!

From what I understand the helmet laws were created because the injuries incurred by unhelmeted riders are higher and many times the riders have no insurance so the public has to foot the bill. At least that's what they tell us, I feel the laws are just an attempt by greedy insurance companies to not have to pay out more.

Figures that someone would bring up the helmet issue. Well he we go:
I firmly believe in the right of choice (Let those who ride decide). The insurance companies have started this B. S. about the costs associated with non-helmeted riders. What costs more? The rider wearing the helmet that gets into an accident (usually caused by the Idiot in a car not paying attention) who thanks to the "brain bucket" lives and stays in a hospital for rehabilitaion for several months, or the non-lid wearer who hits the windshield and is toast? Studies are now showing that the weight of the helmet on the riders head is causing the riders neck to snap on impact. (that a good thing, right?)
Every local govt now has seatbelt laws on their books. Do they enforce these? HECK NO!
Why? There are too many drivers not wearing seat belts to give them all tickets. Imagine the stink it would raise if they tried.
As for the "lack of insurance/costs" With the average cycle costing several thousand dollars, there are'nt too many non-working bikers out there any more. However, there are too many people dropping the $$$ to buy a 100hp+ "rice-rocket" as their first bike.
And there's always a salesman willing to take their $$$ and send them on down the road. I believe in the Motorcycle Safety Course as a minimum for anyone buying a bike or getting a motorcycle license for the first time. Again "Let Those Who Ride Decide"
BTW, been riding since '65
