Here is a CTD for you

motor mount id part number help?

anyone have one? how does it stack up to the cummins? how is the rest of the car (beetle, jetta, passat)as far as comfort, ride, brakes, AC any bugs we should know about tell us.

I understand this is like comparing apples and oranges but I think they both are well built efficient designs.

Alot of us are suffering from gas/fuel increses and nobody wants to go down the hybrid road cause soon as we do the batteries will become either hard to dispose of or extreamly expensive due to the demand and monoploly of having to replace them after so many years/miles. I think that the volkswagon is a good alternative at 42-48 mpg with a 5speed cause it dosn't need anything special to maintain just #2 and probobly 15-40 oil like we all use now in our ctds. From what I have been told the new turbo diesel useses the same 1. 9 motor that has been around for years in the rabbits and other volks products.

Hope W is having fun with the way things are now, I never voted in favor of anyone else just against him! I think some one should shoot him in the heart and see if he bleeds oil!

I've had a bunch of VWs and for me I like older diesels becouse they are what diesels started out to be , simple, I don't like the electronics , then after 25 yrs as a mec/tech I think VW is the best choice for a diesel car , the next is if you can find one [ if older is ok with you ] VW made a pickup[mini] , someone I met the other day said he got 86 mpg. with biodiesel and a VW passat.

Do a search for TDI... there should be some interesting reading. I had a 98, and now have an 01. They are quirky cars, but I like them. VW service is horrendous. The 1. 9 is not the same engine that was in the Rabbits. The Rabbit used a 1. 5L and then a 1. 6L made of cast iron. The new VW's are aluminum. go have a look at TDIClub.com Lots of good information over there.

Rivercat,

I bought my wife a 01 VW Golf TDI 5 sp last summer and the cars great. AC blows colder air than my truck and fit and finish is top notch. I dyno'd the car on our dyno at 82hp and 155ftlbs stock. Not bad for a 90hp engine at the crank from the factory. Since than I have added some PDR parts like a Van Aaken smart box, nozzles and gauges, along with tweaked a few things. Last dyno was 175hp and 294ftlbs and have even more lately but now the clutch slips bad in 3/4/5. I will be putting in a good upgraded South Bend Clutch soon and re dyno.

The car gets 50+ mpg in the city but haven't gone on any hwy trips yet. I 'm guessing 60+ mpg.

Buy one and you won't regret it.

We recently purchased a 2005 Passat TDI. Real fun, quick and great mileage at the sametime. It's the only vehicle we have ever owned that my wife actually say's she loves. Car has been getting 28 mpg in the city with my wife's lead foot and it only has 1000 miles on it. 5 speed automatic with great steering and brakes. Assembly quality is excellent and haven't yet had to experience VW's notorously bad dealer service although the dealership has been very good in the purchasing experience. The only problem is the special synthetic engine oil that the new VW's require that I have heard is hard to find and thus expensive. I also didn't want to be a guinea pig for the hybrid's but was shoping for mileage and getting performance as well was hard to pass up. I so far am very impressed with the TDI, take care everyone. :)

We have two 2003 Jetta TDI's with manual trans. One with about 23k miles; the other with about 37k miles. Both average over fifty highway, but the newer engines don't quite make that. AC is great, as in coooooooold. Seating is very comfortable, highly adjustable. Brakes when you want it to.

No complaints. Would recommend one to anyone.

I have a 1. 9 Turbo VW diesel engine longblock, turbo set-up, 2 stage manual injectors, a european intercooler TD injector pump, oil cooler, everything minus 210mm flywheel. I was going to put it in my VW pickup to replace the 1. 6 natural.

I'm beginning to think it will be more than my Caddy can handle.

Does any body know a good site with info on the older VW diesels all I can find is ones for the new ****

I have two 1. 5 or 1. 6L engines sitting in my garage I can let go real cheap. Actually three cause one I made into a generator. I live north of you in Geauga county. MOF I used to live in Wooster near you.

I also have a 1. 9 Tdi in a 2001 Jetta that my son wrecked but that's going into a boat as soon as I can find a good I/O walkaround 20-23' boat that needs an engine. These 1. 9 Tdi engines can replace any 150-200 hp boat engines.

not sure when but I defintly will if at all possible buy one of these cars. Im in NC and it is an 1 1/2 hour drive to the nearest good dealer. They have 40+ jettas and only 2-4 diesels at a given time, supply is sure tite on these things and haggling is out: full sticker or walk. But mabey we will find a good one and

nascar explain what all else you did to yours to hit 175 thats allot thats close to being more than they offer on the audi's simular chassis for almost double what the jetta costs no even considering the tourque!

I saw in a review the VW had become the most economical car to be german engineered and built and that says allot!

on those that have the older ones what did they go for? 22 seems to be the cheapest tdi now 25 for auto seems like they were 17-19 back last year or before gas ever whent up was like 1. 53 a gallon not last summer but last spring or the winter before that, shoulda got one then...

just had to update/bump it

Got one for sale...wish I could buy it

My son has a 2001 Beatle w/every option and the five speed manual trans... Best fillup (hand figured) was 57 mpg w lotta 75mph cruising... I love it and was hoping he'd keep it 3-4 yrs so I could buy it but he needs a CTD Truck and I don't need another vehicle right now. Only issue is the intake likes to crud up because of the $*^ty diesel fuel they sell in this country and about every 20,000 miles needs to be cleaned out(dealer charges about $150. for this if you can't do yourself)...

Car for sale in TDR Classifieds

OMG Holeshot needs to be in this thread!! OOh OOh So Does TheRabbitTree Oo. I have driven the screamin yellow deamon and man those stage 5 nozzles were a blast!!

TMTT,

I wish you could have driven my TDI just before I sold it. You drove it with nothing but bigger nozzles. I had a weak MAF sensor the whole time I owned the car and never knew how much HP I was losing until I put the new one in.

With the big nozzles, gutted cat (it was plugged pretty good), '$0. 79 Van Aaken box', no muffler and a new Pierburg MAF - it would annihilate the tires in 2nd gear on a 20mph roll. :D

My car had the dual-mass flywheel, so the clutch never slipped much at all. Nowhere near as bad as some TDI's. My only limiting factor was the dang factory ECM - the thing kept going into a 'limp home' mode when I'd hit 38psi for more than a few seconds... it's easily solved, but I never got around to it.

That car had a lot more in it with a few VERY simple electrical modifications. Deo's Golf TDI runs stronger than my TDI... but he has some very large nozzles in it.

Matt - I'm not done with TDI's yet... I'm just on a leave of absence.
