Here is a CTD for you

motor mount id part number help?

still going back and forth with the bank hard to belive that one unpaid cell phone balance can ruin you for life... Any way I should be into the car in a week or so

What are the GOOD injectors/nozzles

for this car?

don't want to get stuck with sticks that run like BDxs rather have a don's f1 equivelent

where do you get a dual mass wheel

LINKS PLEASE

http://www.kermatdi.com/

I had some "POWERPLUS! 502" nozzles in my TDI and they ran quite well.

Charlie is a great guy to deal with - tell him your goals and he'll take care of you.

The dual mass flywheel was only used in certain model year TDI's. Depending on who you ask, a DMF is more of a hindrance than a benefit. My DMF/clutch never slipped, but it made a hellacious amount of noise/vibration when you really romped on it. :D

Charlie has an automatic in his TDI and has had really good luck. He even added a 'tighter' aftermarket DTT converter.

well first off to answer a few ?'s... RESCUE RAM. . both theold 1. 5L and 1. 6L and the new 1. 9 L use a aluminum head bolted to a cast iron block. . the new V10 toureg tdi engine is all aluminum. . but thats the only usa available vw diesel with a aluminum block. As for the intakes clogging up on new 1. 9L TDIs. . its not the diesel fuels faul . . its the egr and the crank case vapor mixing together and plugging the intake and cylinder head. . its a easy fix. vent your crankcase breather to the atmosphere and if you want to disconnect the egr. as for power there are guys pushing 200 plus hp from a 1. 9L... and 150 hp is easy. heck i had my old 1. 6L TD doing 134 hp at the wheels. .

thanks

had 01 golf tdi for 80k trouble free miles never brought it in for service (not even the free dealer oil changes. . your right, hate the dealer). can get shell synthetic rotella 5w-40 @ wally world for 13. 50 a gallon. i used to change the oil with a Topsider where you stick a tube down the dipstick tube and suck it out. that way you dont have to get under it and remove the giant sound proofing/aerodynamic plastic panel that covers the drain plug. I traded straight up for a 1983 Mercedes 300CD with 56k original miles. It is a great diesel, the workmanship, and quality is unmatched today but there is something to be said for the technological advances they've made in 20 years. I think i'd take back the VW.

I picked up a new body style 05 Jetta TDI for my parents a week ago. First tank of city driving it got 35mpg. It has the 6 speed auto and drives great. The new body style has advanced tons over the 2001 Jetta I had. I picked up the base model TDI which comes with leather, power heated seats, dual climate control, and a ton of other options my 01 Jetta GLS didn't offer. It has more room inside and decent stock power.

I called around and most dealers want you to pay sticker. I finally had one dealer offer 500 over invoice and worked it down to 200 over invoice. Each dealer only had a couple available and said they only sit on the lot for a few days. The one I picked up for my parents was still wrapped in plastic and hadn't been prepped when I bought it.

If I were to buy a new car right now, this would be the one I would buy.

Charlie's auto is in an 'A4' vintage car... with the 'ALH' 1. 9L TDI with the VP pump... not the newer 'Pump Deuse' with unit injectors.

I've been out of the VW loop... so this is the first time I've heard of the VW 6-speed auto. I do know that their Tiptronic manu-matic's are like $10,000 if you ever have to buy a new one. A friend of mine has a used car lot/repair shop back in MA - he bought a cherry 1. 8T car that had the Tiptronic... but it had a HOLE in the case. Someone must have hit something with it... Short story: Nobody could rebuild it and a new one from VW was $10k. I'd stay clear of the Tiptronic on any vehicle that is NOT under a darn good warranty.

Got my new A5 yesterday and love it.

It really compares in many ways to the new acuras on the outside look/size and the luxurious interior. In fact I think it is better because the VWs mostly only come with leatherette and not the peach fuzz of the honda/acuras.

They gave me a free oil change, the salesman bout flipped when I told him I would rather have a coulple of the cartridges instead, And he took me to the service manager to see and he said that they just came out with a new oil spec VW 505 01 that has to be used and that castrol makes it but he didn't think it was available outside the dealership.

As a operator of a shop that offers quick lubes, I use a low line of filters cause no one wants to pay for first line and if you explained the diffrence they would laugh, anyway no one apreciates the new gi-4 grade on gas oil and how it caused a price increace to add to the increase of all petrolium/natural gas/fossil based products.

we can't hardly compete with walmart (18. 88)and other big bussiness that either loose on changes to bring in shoppers or loose on changes to cause or sell other repairs usually uneeded.

People really flip when you ask them to pay for the 12 or so dollar gallon of coolant they used!

Any way I am in the middle of changing my filter line and have found ALLOT of bad bussiness. First on any thing specialty I pay too much for example a fuel filter for a 6. 6 dura costs around 46 and comes in the Mighty engine guard II box but the filter says donaldson or something. Second my book lists the same # or filter for all the dodge 5. 9 dsl applications this cannot be good, and this is only one example there are many.

Any way the TSB and the fram bashing got me to using fleetguards after many changes with my line and changes on 3 gens with my line that infact call for a different fleetguard #.

sorry to bore you with my discust but it is all around these days...

so far I like the big interior but still wish I had goten a A4 back when they were new.

Any other A5 TDI owners out there ?

RScroggs

I've got a 99 VW Jetta TDI and has air bubble in clear line at fuel filter, turns over to many times to start not like my 97 cummins which starts on first turn, any one know where bubble is comming from?

Turns out that the new VW 505. 01 oil spec is to provide protection to the delicate cam lobes that work the pump deuse system. and that the oil was developed just for this motor and is only availible in german markets sofar. WHAT a crock not only am I stuck paying 40 something to get the oil changed but they changed the bolt pattern of the hubs so you have to buy their wheels or stick with the ugly steel ones and plastic caps.

so far bad milage 40 or less and lots of smoke and tourqe is bad at idle so you have to rev up and slip the cluch like a civic or something

any one else know of any more surpises? NEED ADVICE ON THIS MONSTER! ASAP

Is the oil vapor/ intake clogging a problem on this motor still or did they change the vent system?

When I bought our Jetta TDI, they had a special offer where you paid $10 more a month and get free oil changes for the life of the car. :) Normally I do all the maintainance on my vehicles, but this was too good to turn down. My wife drives 30,000+ miles per year. That's 6 oil changes per year at $50 each. $300 for me to do it per year and $120 for them to do it for me. We also get a free loaner car when we get the oil changed. I'll keep this car for a long time and never change the oil myself. Oo.

anyone here know what type of diesel was in the 92 vw's... it is 1. 9 liter, but is that an idi or a tdi??? just looking as i might want to get a 92 [newest of that old body style] as a toy to play with

If I'm not mistaken, I think those vintage cars would have the old 1. 6 idi engine... Hold onto your hat, they're powerful sons-of-guns!

52hp @ 4800rpm

71ft-lbs @ 2000rpm

Deo's 1. 6L made like 135hp to the wheels, though... His 1. 6L had a tweaked 4BT pump on it, though. :)

I just got a 2000 Golf with 140000K

I got it fairly cheap cause it didn't have any power,The dealer thought it needed a turbo. all I did was disconnect the MASS air flow sensor it ran like a striped ape. I really love the way it drives torquey little motor. The newer TDIs have some great technology for example a VG turbocharger and are capable, with some mods, of upto 200hp and 350ft lbs of torque. There are also fueling boxes available. I think the 1. 9 is a totally different beast than the older 1. 6 liter rabbits. I think its a whole lot better.

I cleaned out the caked up crap in the intake manifold on the wifes 1999. 5 Jetta.

What a difference... has the old power back.

Now if I can get the CEL light to stay out so I can get thru emissions...

Its still disconnected,I'll let you know how the milage per tank is. Then I'll install a new Mass air flow sensor see if the milage drops or improves.

Finally got a little miles on it 1800 including about 400 in the mountains going up long hills with lots of gear changes. Finally feels good to drive takes off better and motor seems to be a little looser. When to the dealer to pickup tag and met a guy with 5000 on his and he said it was a totally diffrent car now broke in and is completely satisfied. Not sure if nozzles or a chip would be better on this car but know that the ones available are cheaper than any thing for trucks.

I'm excited. I changed the glow plugs last night and for the first time in a year the check engine light did not come on!! Oo.

Had to retap 2 of the holes too... . job went well. One hour thanks to the tips on the TDI website.

Now let's see what happens this morning at the emissions test.
