I suggest giving Ken Gupton @ Gupton Motors in Springfield, TN a call 615-384-2886. They are good people.

I plan to buy from them some day when I save enough of my lunch money to afford a big RAM.

Bobby Davanport

sshelby,

I will be purchasing a 2002 later this spring. Is there any additional costs other than the $100 over invoice? A few years back I almost purchased a 2000 at Dave Smith. They wanted $55 over invoice, BUT then added almost $200 for "dealer prep". I was told this was a standard charge to all customers and consisted of waxing the vehicle, cleaning/prepping it for the customer and a "thorough" inspection from bumper to bumper before customer pick-up. I was reading on one of those websites for buying new vehicles and it said the dealership is already paid by the factory to prep the vehicle for the customer and "dealer prep" packages is just another way for the dealer to make a few extra $$$. Can you please comment about this?

PSs: Do you know what the cut-off date is for placing an order for a 2002?

Ordered mine from Melton Dodge in Claremore OK, it was $175 under invoice. No add on at time of pick up, just the deal as qouoted over the phone, and a faxed order, no hassles just a pleasure to deal with.

Was that $175 under factory or dealer invoice? Do they sell all trucks for $175 under invoice or was that after any special rebates, incentives, etc being offered at the time?

1tuffram,

That is correct. My brother, brother-in-law works their (even though I purchased my in Castle Rock... they matched Melton Sales).

You can even add rebates on top of that figure... except for the farm rebate.

Yea that was under invoice, actually at the time I got mine(early 2000) it was $275 under invoice, but that ws only a short time. That is also only on ordered vehicles I think, then you can deduct the rebates, etc. if applicable.

Typically, the cut-off is around April or May. There are no other costs other than what your license and title will be in your state. Prep is paid by the factory so that was unfortunate that you had to go through that. The only time that I will sell for under invoice is when there is cash back to the dealer. This is an undisclosed amount of money and is for us to keep. I do normally share some of that and would be willing to do so if there is some that will apply at time of delivery. If I can answer more questions, please give me a call at 877. 771. 2500 and I will be happy to give you a quote or fax you something. Thanks again for the response!

I you want to go to Ohio, Jackson Dodge in Celina Ohio, will sell you a Dodge for $500 over the dealer invoice price. They are nice people, we were treated real well, I would highly recommend them. Thay also said that they would stand behind the warranty if you wanted to modify the truck.

ssheby,

Thanks for the info, I thought the dealer prep charge was BS, but was told I would be charged regardless if they performed the service or not. I was told their dealer prep used to consist of a glaze coating, undercoating and Scotch Guarding, but customers where complaining they did not want it. So they decided the customer would benefit better by this "thourough" inspection, etc (yea right, just another angle to pull in some additional profit). I'm sure Dave Smith makes out very well with the factory kick-backs, etc from the volume he sells, so why charge the customer for some BS dealer prep package (even if they do not want it done)??? Got me to wondering about Dave Smiths integrity and if any "hidden" costs would pop up when sighing the final papers. This was probably the only negative thing I noticed about Dave Smith, well except for the "differences of opinion" I had with the warranty manager over an issue with the rear brake shoes when the rear axle seals failured (whole other story, but was last time I went back). I notice you are a fleet sales manager. My understanding is you would sell me a truck for cheaper than one of your "regular" sales people. Is that true? So when a person walks into a dealer and a sales person approaches them, you say I'm sorry I will not do buisness with you I want to talk to the Fleet sales Manager because they can sell me a truck for cheaper since they do not work on comission??

I will keep you in mind when I get closer to purchasing and start "price shopping".

Is there a web site for Melton Sales in Claremore, OK??

Hi 1tuffram,

I'm in the process right now of getting Dealers to accept my offer. I did my research on the web and came to www.fightingchance.com - I order the invoice pricing from them and went through it all. Yesterday I sent out my "offer" to 21 dealers. I heard from 11 of them yesterday - 4 just left a phone number to call them back, yeah, right; 4-5 said I didn't have everything correct; one even said I didn't have the 2BH included on the list (which I did) and that would be a difference of 4k; the very last one said they would do my offer. Right now I'm $250 over the invoice, but wondering about the other dealers saying I didn't have stuff correct. I'm thinking (98% positive) they were feeding me BS just to get an additional money in thier pockets.

I also was wondering about the cutoff date for the 2002 model, so I finally decided that either I just do it now or I'll never will. The tax refund/bonus from work isn't going to make a difference in me getting it now or later, so I chose now.

Good luck. Michael
