Happy Easter and Passover!

A little fun helping the wife cook...

I've been a VFD member since 1991. EMT/Medic since 1994. Started teaching fire fighting classes ~1999 or 2000. I don't run as many calls as I used to. But I still maintain my membership.

It is a great community service organization to be involved in. You will see and do things that will change you forever. Just be prepared for that.

I have been thinking about doing it for a while and I have thought about what I may or may not see. Guess you can say it comes with the job, I am actually looking forward to it.

My biggest advice for you is something that I say at the beginning of every class I teach........"Don't be afraid of fear". Fear is probably your best safety tool. If it doesn't feel right, don't do it and don't let anyone talk you in to it. If you have a member of your department that tells you that nothing scares them, stay as far away from that person as possible. Either they are completely naive or a fool. In both cases, they have the potential to hurt you or themselves. The day you stop being afraid is the day you need to hang it up.

Take all of your classes seriously, even the ones that seem mundane. You will never know when those skills will come in handy.

Retired as a local Volunteer Firefighter, First Responder, EMT-B for 5 years now.
I DO still help with fundraising for the department as not is ALMOST as important as going out on calls!!!

Paid Call Engineer/AEMT here. 41 years old. Been doing this since my 20's. Had many opportunity's to go full time, but I've been self employed most of my life, and it would be a pay cut for me. Welcome aboard
