Vermont and New Hampshire Travel Advice???

Well gentleman the time has come for me to upgrade my spotting scope. I was watching two NICE bucks working down a canyon last weekend but as light was fading, so was my vision. It was fuzzy past 500yds as well. I'm currently using a Burris Landmark 20-50x that i picked up a few years back when i just wanted to get an entry level small scope. Now i'm looking for something that can get me easily out past 1000yds and still count points. After A LOT of reading i'm leaning towards the Vortex Nomad. Does anybody have any experience with them? They supposedly have an outstanding unconditional warranty and very respectable build and glass. Now obviously i'm not expecting Swarovski or Leicha but this seems to be a quality unit for the price. Any input, or a comparable unit? I want to keep it under $500. Thanks!

Can you purchase it with an understanding that if it doesn't work out for you, you can return it for full credit? Assuming there's no damage.

Hi Grizzly,

I'd most likely be getting it from Sportsmans Warehouse, or Cabela's. They both will allow for returns if in "resealable" condition. I'm trying to get something before Saturday morning so i'll probably just jump in and see if i like it. At this stage in my life i have low standards for optics. I'm sure i'll get more precise and specific with my preferences as i mature into a better hunter, but for now a spotter in this price range should be all i need. The other option was the Redfield Rampage or Nikon Pro staff.

I purchased a good one from Costco on-line. It's very good for the price, which wasn't very much. It does have a well known brand name, which I can't remember right now. It came in a hard side case.

I think the Mead is the one Grizzly is referring to. The price and the reviews make me a bit leery. I think i might just go with the Burris High Country, i really want a scope by Friday when i head up the hill but nobody has any of the Vortex's in stock. I want the tripod that also has the capability of affixing to the window. I'm going to get the camera attachment too.

Well i went ahead and bought a scope. I found one on eBay that's actually marketed towards bird watching. It's a Konus Konuspot 20-60x80mm. It was used in like new condition with the bag, manual, camera attachment and a cheap tripod. I'm very happy with it considering the price and am really excited about taking pictures through it. I definitely need to start reading up on a great and durable tripod. The one a replaced the cheap and flimsy one with is cheap and flimsy. My pictures were really blurry due to the shaking. It's obviously not comparable to the big $$$ scopes, but for me it will do just fine for a while. Thanks everybody for the help and insight.

Yeah, i completely understand. I have looked through the ATM-80 and a Leica(don't recall the model) and they are incredible. However, i don't think i'm in a point in my life where i can justify that kind of purchase. It's kind of like knowing the Viper is an incredible maching, but the SRT-8 Challenger can still provide lots of "entertainment":-laf I think this scope was a good jumping off point from my burris compact. I'm definitely starting a piggy bank and waiting to find a nice used Swarovski or something similar.
