I'm considering replacing my stock VP 44 with the "Hot Rod" version, but I was curious what the performance increase will be.

I'm currently running a Stock VP 44, Edge comp box, 285 inj. with stock turbo and 6-spd trans in a 01' 3500, 4X4, ext cab.

Will there be that big of a difference with the pump since I'm already running the Edge comp and will my current Edge comp box work with a Hot Rod pump?

HR VP should work with edge. However, a few guys I know went with the HR VP and weren't that pleased. Didn't really give that much more HP and very lumpy idle - they were both running autos so the lumpy idle may be related to auto. I'd do as much research as you can before putting down the money for one of these units. If your VP is fine then I'd leave well enough alone, but that's me...

You'd do better going with a bigger turbo and some F-1 Mach injectors. But, then you'll be looking at a better clutch since the added HP will "seek-out" the weak link. It's a slippery slope... Enjoy the ride my friend.

I ran a II HR VP-44 on my former '01. The truck was heavily modified and I saw a modest gain on the dyno (~25 Peak HP if I remember correctly). I doubt if you will see anywhere near that difference with your current level of mods.

On a side note, my truck which was a manual trans, had a very distinct lope at idle. I sort of liked the way it would sound, but I can see how that would be annoying to someone in a daily driver application.
