Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) VP Problems??

I have an issue lately with my truck and what I would descibe as a miss with a small amount of white smoke occuring at the same time. The miss occurs under light throttle around 1800rpm in 2nd and 3rd gear. Not all the time just once in a while not bad, but can be noticed. Once boost is up it seems to disapear, or if you leave the line with a good amount of throttle it never does it. Also if you are just sitting and rev the motor it will miss a little at about the same rpm and a little white smoke can be seen, like it's not burning all the fuel. I was thinking maybe MAP or IAT senors, but replaced both of them with no help. I have checked and dielectic greased all connections. So, I guess the question is, could it be the VP going south. Let me know if you have any good ideas. I will have access to a code scanner this weekend and will see if I have any codes, the key trick reveils nothing. Thanks

If your not showing any codes, I would assume bad fuel. Also, have you made any recent engine modifications?

Sounds like a bad injector...
