Well I just killed my second VP44 saturday night. the pump has only been on the engine for 13000 miles and she gave up on me. Died in the same place as the last one also. Had great fuel pressure the whole time 20 psi at Idle and 15 psi at WOT. Got an used one on my truck right now. I guess this year just isnt for me.

Both of them just up and died. Went from 2nd to third than when I got in to third and started to accelerate they died at around 1500rpms. Not a sign one.

My sympathies, but don't feel too bad. Member J. Geis from Laramie just told me his 5th one gave up the ghost this past weekend as well. He only has 97k on his truck.

(sigh)

Guess a spare VP-44 is a better choice for our money than a spare tire...

Wonder why so many seem to be failing within the last month or so - any connection with winter/summer fuel in some parts of the country?

Wow #4 Thats no good. I guess its time to git me a spare on the shelf. Gary I run #2 in the truck all year round and I also run the Stanadyne fuel treatment in every tank full. Not sure the first pump was a internal mechanical failure. Didnt git the codes from this pump but Im guessin thats what the second injection pump was.

I agree with Gary, seems to be alot of them dying lately. Maybe it is because they are a year older... ... . who knows. :confused:

yeah, I feel your pain Garrett. My 4th pump went to the big repair shop in the sky last weekend. I talked with Piers and they said that a lot of the remans are coming out of Mexico and they are complete junk. I also spoke with Central Motive Power in Denver and they supposedly do something special in their rebuild related to the Overflow Valve. I am still in a bit of a shock and didn't pay great attention to what I was being told...

In any event, try to get a pump from Piers or Central Motive.

Good luck...

Jason

As posted elsewhere, mine went out this past weekend. No warning at all just stopped running. It had 96,000 miles on it. Its been a long week without my truck :{

You should still be covered under the 5yr/100K, right?

My fuel pressure at the time was ~12 psi running 70 down the interstate with Comp on 2/2. Central Motive said they will tear the old pump apart after I am fixed and let me know what went wrong.

Hey BPonci your the one that killed it. You killed my first one also. you were drivin it when it died first. you drove it saturday to pick up parts. then your wife drove it and it died at the same place on the highway as it did the first time. Your BAD LUCK. STAY AWAY. Oh well no worries.

VP44

Garrett, I'm woundering if you used any additive??? There's a guy in our local club that learned the hard way ALWAYS use a additive like Stanidine.

Yep I run around with it on 2x3 and no on the updated fuel lines. Ifins Im feelin frisky I crank it up to the ole smoke em out level 5x5. but I cant pull my fuel pressure down past 16 psi post filter. It died from internal mechanical failure Im thinkin
