Mine went out at 119,000 miles,it never showed any troubles, died quick,,i;m betting internal seizure. I had the truck 2 years ,it looked like the original VP,I added a fuel pressure gage and pressure was low about 6 months after I bought the truck,so I changed the lift pump and added a pusher at the tank. Also I am waiting for a new APPS as I type this. Pump was replaced last week and now APPS went bonkers, thank God the 6. 5 Chevy keeps going and going and going.

VP44-Lift pump failures

'02 HO 2500 6 spd, Banks Monster Exhaust, AFE filter, Jacobs E-Brake. Lift pump went at 79k, now the VP44 goes at 83. 2K. Carry a 10'6 Bigfoot, rarely run it over 2200rpm. Use AMSOil throughout. Normal MPG 20. 5-21. 5 empty, 16 +/- with camper. No gages.

VP died on 28 DEC 2005 at 1728 hrs. #ad

No warning, not even a hiccup. Running at ~2000 rpm at ~1/2 throttle.

Gauges were installed at ~10,000 miles.

Never been below 8 psi running for more than a day.

On lift pump number 2.

Saw fuel pressure of 16 psi @ idle, 10 psi @ WOT.

Stanadyne PF every refill.

Que Sera - Sera,... ... .

My bone stock 01. 5 has original VP and original lift pump with just over 60K. I added guages at 50K when I bought it and no problems yet. The local COOP has a 00 that has the original lift pump, original VP, never a problem, 154K on the clock, regularly pulls 26K but no mods ever. Only thing done to it was front brakes, oil and filter changes, tires.

172,000 and I have a new VP ready to install. The truck is still very powerful and runs great 99. 999% of the time but I have the 0216 code and my milage has fallen off about 3/4 a mile per gallon as of late.

When mine acted up the first time I checked the codes and that is what it showed. It did not act like a dead pedal as it did when the APPS went out, the rpm would come up, but slowly like a gasser that is out of time. Very low on power.

vp-44 went out about three weeks ago in my 99 at about 93,000. i've had the truck since it had 68,000 on it. I never replaced the LP before but i can tell it has been replaced. Going to pick up new 44 and LP tomorrow. Also getting fuel, boost and pyro guages. sad thing is all that is gonna cost more than i put down on the truck when i bought it. got a good price on an Inj. $1195. 00 at least thats the cheapest in my area.

1st 44 with mostly stock rig

I have 123k on my truck with only 4

" turbo back exhaust and K&N drop-in. I tested the lift pump and i have good pressure. I guess I have some work ahead of me. But, I love my truck.

My 2000 was running better than it ever had at 130k miles. Went to do routine filter change, it never started again... POS!

Cummins really hurt their reputation using the VP44. I can see them making a mistake in using them, but its the lack of support after finding the problem that really hurts.

New II pump in with 600 miles. Hopefully, the ones with upgraded parts are better. .
