Hi Fellas,

I guess the 1993 W-350 is getting about like Pastor Bob. About wore out and ready to retire :-laf So I decided to replace it on the hay hauling circuit with another year and brand of truck. ;) My only question is can it still be made an "honorary" 1st gen? It was manufactored in 1971 with a 270 hp turboed Cummins inline 6 and has a Roadranger with 10 different gears in front of 4. 11 rears. What do you think, is it still 1st gen material?

I'd say it's PRE- 1st gen (like PB and me :-laf ) so it qualifies. .

but post a pic from under the hood so we can be sure!

Dreams

Ahhh yes, for those that don't know, all of our dreams over here in the first gen forum do come true. Happy, and more importantly safe hauling Jermey with the new class 8 Cummins. Gonna use your gooseneck, or get something BIGGER??? Update your sig now, your the proud owner of not one or two,. . but THREE CUMMINS,... lucky dog.

Yep we need some underhood pics. I bet you and Philip are gonna have your hands full working on that large car:D What kind of Cummins? How big turbo? Pics? oh yeah btw how bout that seat in the w350?:D

Here is the story

Here is the story on the old truck. I have wanted an old Autocar for the past couple of years. Looked at several, but they were either junk or over price, or both. Then, my wonderful wife (no such thing as a bad wife, especially one that lets you buy an old semi) Michelle found an Autocar listed in a farm paper last Friday. Finally got to go look at it on Sunday afternoon. Went for a test drive and it was nice to drive. Spent the $$$ on it and 6 miles later was sitting along the road with an engine that wouldn't run. First thing I figured is that I must have bought the truck off CB Parker's uncle. After a serious bout of buyer's remorse and some swearing I figured out it was out of fuel. So 5 gals of dyed fuel in the tank and a filter refill it fired up and made it to the fuel station. Drove it the remaining 90 miles home. Oo. What a rush. It will run 70 without a problem, but my wife informed me the speedometer doesn't work ( I thought I was going 55).

It is a 1971 Autocar A64B with a NHC 250 Cummins with an add on turbo which makes it a 270. The plan is to get it DOT leagal and run it for a while to find all of the leaks, problems, etc. Just need to get the air leaks and exhaust leaks fixed (read straight pipe) and fix the lights. Brakes, tires, etc are road worthy. Plan is to add air ride and a repaint job in the next year or so. But I am going to wait and plate it in Feb. so I can get the most $$$ out of the plates. I will keep a few pictures posted now and then of the progress.

An oldie, but goodie!! Does it need kingpins in the front? I think you need 2 straight pipes to be right. Gotta share the sweet sound of a diesel with both sides of the road. Is the wet kit still functional? You can now get a big dump trailer, a hydralic flatbed, man the options are endless! :D

I'd let it in the first gen forum, but should we induct it while the pastor is away? :-laf

So how long was your heart in your throat along side the road when it died? :-laf ;)

Father of the 1st Gens?

... soooooo I think it should definitely be inducted into the 1st gen Haul of Fame we could call it a..... lessseee here..... D8500, D13500??? But it is 4-wheel drive... . okay really 8-wheel drive... so maybe a W13500??? Really it's the granddaddy to all our little trucks... . or at least the father... we can probably trace all our 1st geners' roots back to this rig... (sniff. . I think I'm getting teary eyed! :D :D ).

Cool rig - Old school is the only school.

I looked it over the other day. Luckly it hasn't been worked over to bad. What work that has been done was done right.

But its got 40 years of use that need covered back up.

Jeremy,

Great find! I think you would be interested in this article (current feature cover) on a 1960 Autocar that I saw this past weekend at the "Truckin For Kids" event. It was every bit as good looking in person as the photo's in the article

This is a neat thread. Getting me psyched up as I am planning a business trip to Autocar in Indiana within the next few weeks. We are supplying a steering shaft to them for a new vehicle... since no one from our company has been there I want to see the operation, meet people, etc.

Jeremy. . put a list together... I'll see what I can scrounge up for ya :D
