Here is the story
Here is the story on the old truck. I have wanted an old Autocar for the past couple of years. Looked at several, but they were either junk or over price, or both. Then, my wonderful wife (no such thing as a bad wife, especially one that lets you buy an old semi) Michelle found an Autocar listed in a farm paper last Friday. Finally got to go look at it on Sunday afternoon. Went for a test drive and it was nice to drive. Spent the $$$ on it and 6 miles later was sitting along the road with an engine that wouldn't run. First thing I figured is that I must have bought the truck off CB Parker's uncle. After a serious bout of buyer's remorse and some swearing I figured out it was out of fuel. So 5 gals of dyed fuel in the tank and a filter refill it fired up and made it to the fuel station. Drove it the remaining 90 miles home. Oo. What a rush. It will run 70 without a problem, but my wife informed me the speedometer doesn't work ( I thought I was going 55).
It is a 1971 Autocar A64B with a NHC 250 Cummins with an add on turbo which makes it a 270. The plan is to get it DOT leagal and run it for a while to find all of the leaks, problems, etc. Just need to get the air leaks and exhaust leaks fixed (read straight pipe) and fix the lights. Brakes, tires, etc are road worthy. Plan is to add air ride and a repaint job in the next year or so. But I am going to wait and plate it in Feb. so I can get the most $$$ out of the plates. I will keep a few pictures posted now and then of the progress.
