Robert here is what I used for On Board Air on my 03. It involved lowering the alternator and using a different belt and a special CAC intake tube.

Kilby doesn't make one for the 12 valve but I originally bought the special alternator pulley from them and was going to make my own brackets to mount a York air condition compressor on it's side above the alternator. I saw pics of it on here I believe. It puts out about 160+ psi and works great. Here is what my kit came with: ::Kilby Enterprises:: I managed to get it on sale for "only" $1050 USD.

You are right about where do you stop once you've started. That was one of my concerns in doing the 84 crew. I knew I would end up rebuilding the entire truck. BTW what year is your truck registered as? Does it have a 93 VIN? Shadrach

So Im assumeing the SBC Mastercylender mounts exactly how the stock set up mounts in a 93 firewall ???? My onlly complaint about the South bend stuff is the un Godly price of it . There is a few Clutch rebuilders that can build the same and warrenty them for a bunch less . Then if you go talk to a few places like Six States in Portland Oregon and other citys and states when i bought my last clutch ask me what i intend to do they sell 3 diffrent grades of LUK clutches and a few others . My thinking is any clutch that cost more than the one in my Peterbilt that is putting just about 450hp to the ground is insane

Yes the slave cyl mounts the same way. If you talk to Southbend they state the first gen slaves were the strongest factory slaves. In fact I thought they told me the first gen slave is what tehy use for the upgraded slave cyl. DVolk, Once you see the quality and customer service with a Southbend you'll understand. Heck for a Big truck a redone Lipe for big power is getting up there in price. I'm going to try one of there TDI clutch Kits and I normally only deal with Sachs for the vws. . my '96 Passat TDI blows right throw the stocker, and its the good single mass G60/VR6 style.

Thanks,

Deo

From what I've seen, SouthBend flycuts the stock cylinders and adds additional seals inside to assist with repeated high pressure loads, and add a stainless braided flex line between the two. I sold the one I was going to put on my '03 before I got it put back together, and ended up with the stock one on it. So far, no problems, but remember, it's always a possibility, so either carry a spare or learn to start it in gear!!

Remember, that 450hp to the ground in your Pete is Brake Horsepower, Bhp, while the Horsepower in our Dodges is measured in SAE standards. A 300 SAE hp Cummins, when dynoed on a test stand for a Pete or KW at Cummins Southern Plains, will only dyno around 175 BHP. While I have a lot of respect for my little 5. 9, Dynoed at 409 SAE-hp before it was bored and cammed, there ain't no way it's gonna outpull my 3406A Cat rated at 400Bhp in my old Pete. Been there, done that, got the fuel (and parts) bill to prove it!!:D

Speaking of the parts bill, South Bend does a great job of compacting and building components that will hold up to repeated abuse and towing. Yes, they are high in cost, but I've never had to redo any that I've done for everyday working trucks. Some of the pulling trucks, yes, but that sometimes has to do with the driver and the desire to save money and not put the big clutch in the first time.....

SWEET! Oo. Pricey, but sweet! Will look into that! :) Thanks!

Something to remember as well is clutch size. If you put 400 hp through a 15" clutch, it needs much less exotic material than a 12" clutch due to surface area change. The larger the area, the more grip a clutch will have so less of a need for organic materials etc. That is part of the reason for the higher price. And for me, would never but anything else buy a SBC. They have a great name and product and as I do not want anything on this truck to fail, it is worth the bucks to me. I have also never had anything but good customer service. I know of way too many failures in other brands that were due to quality issues (not from overpowering the clutch).

That is my concern. The repeated loads in the long run.

Yup. Been there. For the 1990 I went cheap and put in a 0090. It did not last a year and I had to get a Con OFE as it was slipping. Granted, I was over the SBC spec by 200 ft/lbs so that did not help but... . ;):-laf

For your tach, how much trouble was it to deal with Autometer for the custom deal? I'm interested in their gauges, but the line I want doesn't have the diesel (low RPM) tach. Also, for the custom gauge pod, what did you use for the indicator lights masks? I had an idea about doing an instrument panel similar to this, but this is the first time I see someone do it.

AWESOME build!!!! Is this where you are currently with the truck? ... . or are there more pictures needed to bring us up to date?

Keep up the great work! While it may seem like it's taking forever to complete, the reality is that wrenching on these is alot of the fun!!! Once you get it finished, you may find yourself looking for more do, or another project to dive into! So, take your time, and enjoy :)

What an amazing build up. Can't wait to see more!

I nominate this for thread of the year! Hopefully once everything is done and posted up, TDR will see it fitting to feature your build in the TDR Magazine with tons of photos.

Thread of the year and most post. Then a feature story in the TDR. This is what this site and the TDR is about. That and helping me out every-time I have a problem with my truck. There are some smart people on this site and this gentleman is one of them.

Welcome Overdrive. Another Canadian Oo. Shadrach

Shadrach,

No, but we are outnumbered on here, not that that matters eh! and I don't like Nutella either:-laf Shadrach

Shadrach,

I am teasing I hope you know.

We go to Campobello Island in NB every chance that we get in the summer, just like stepping back in time 30 years as the townfolk all stick together, the kids ALL have manners and they are a fantastic, tough, and hardworking people.

The least I could do was switch to Nutella out of respect... ... ..... :-laf:-laf

This thread makes me want to go find a 1st Gen and just have at it. Oo.

Sorry for the lack of responses guys! This is my busiest week of the year trying to get everything done before Christmas... . was at work 86 hours in 6 days... .

But enough about that, lets answer some questions! Oo.

It was not real easy. They are a big company but I managed to find the right person at the right time.....

As for the cutom indicator bulbs, they are lightly sprayed lexan in the same color I painted the gauge contraption.

Thanks for the encouragement! Sadly (maybe not!) I already have another 3 projects lined up! ;) One even involves a 150 HP Neon motor into a 600 lbs go cart with the Neon body then becoming 340ed! :D

No. This is where the truck was at a year ago. I am further along and I have more pics from before the repaint. Just need some time in the next few days... .

This is what this site and the TDR is about. That and helping me out every-time I have a problem with my truck. .

That is why I fell in love with this site so many years ago. No other site is like the TDR. We have a great crew here and most are very knowledgable. Most of what was done to this truck was done by what I leant on this very site by many of the people responding to this post! :)

My thanks to all of you for always answering my questions and being so willing to always help!

Lets see. You are on the East side of the continent and South of the border and I am in the West and North of the border and we both like Dodges and Cummins. Does that makes us "distant cousins" :-laf :-laf

This thread makes me want to go find a 1st Gen and just have at it. Oo.

OK So Would you like a complete and running 1984 Crew Cab, just begging for a CTD

Or a real project that you don't have to disassemble. You can weld in your own late model firewall with all the correct holes and VIN if that's allowed in your area. I have 2 rear doors and a 165" D350 frame also. I'll even throw in the bucket seats. :) Some assembly required - batteries not included.
