Sure you can! Disconnect boost line, slide plate full aft, adjust afc full aft. Only problem is having enough power to get to the testing station.

Washington already does emission testing if you live in King , Snohomish, and Pierce County.

Not sure what your emmision testing is like here (I'm in WA currently), but I'd like to know. At home private diesels are only subject to visual inspection. For mine they only checked to see that the emmision controls were in place, then let it idle and looked for smoke. They didn't even notice the missing cat basically no smoke (at idle) = a pass.



Commercial diesels are a different story and are hooked up to a sniffer at a truck shop.



Since the equipment for testing diesels is different than that for gassers and it isn't feasible for a small shop to purchase a sniffer for diesels they've made the test for private diesels relatively simple.



I guess if CA's practices are going to be guidlines for WA, it'll be a little different story than at home.

I did not know that King , Snohomish, and Pierce County tested. Up here in Whatcom county we seem to get out of alot of stuff (straight pipes, the 10 second blackout ). Every officer who has stopped me didn't say a thing about being loud or having a cloud follow me after every stop and go... . However one asked me if I had "lifters in that thing" (as he looked at the rear tire). I told him no it was just a 3/4 ton and they came that way (I could have been a smart a$$ and said yes 12 of them, but I didn't need any more tickets) He told me that i should get mud flaps and I would be "ok" and sent me on my way.



What do they do for the tests down there in the big city? Anyone with a straight pipe?

Bob, not all of King County has the emission testing requirement. I live in Enumclaw and they do not test Diesels. In fact, they didn't test gas rigs either up until I purchased my '98. 5 24v in early June of that year. I'm still not sure if they test gas powered cars/trucks (even though my wife has a gas powered S-10 ).



However, a friend and fellow TDR member who lives in Bellevue (works in Kent)... both located within King County, has to have his 12v Ram checked every other year using the opacity test.



What's really funny is that Enumclaw is the Diesel capital of the northwest! You know, it's the kind of place where everyone stops and takes notice of the several gas powered Rams and Super Duty trucks that go by... ... just like when I drive to Seattle and everyone looks at the big, noisy, smelly, bad Diesel!

John, I'll find out next year whether we have to get checked here in Fall City, my 2001 wil be two years old then. I know when I lived in Snohomish I had to get my Chevy diesel checked and my friend at work who lives in Bellevue has to get his Ford checked.

I live in Renton, and my truck is a '98 - 12 valve that I bought used in September of 2000. I had to renew the tabs at the end of September 2000, and I did not need an emissions test. When I renewed my tabs again in 2001, I still did not need an emissions test. I guess the real test will be if I need one in 2002.



Depending on how the test is run will determine if I pass or fail an opacity test... ...

Emmision testing also in most of Clark County. Just got the notice to take the '92 in. I think that vehicles less than seven years old do not get tested. I did get an '84 CJ-7 that was completly devoid of all emission controls to pass. They didn't run the stick shifts on the dyno, just a high rpm no-load test.



Anyway, the bad news is Kalifornia is already here!

emissions testing

For starters... it does seem kinda backward, but CA does not emissions test diesel pickups.



I live here in Seatac and work in Renton, and I was told that testing was done for residents here in the bigger cities and surrounding areas. Out of curiosity, I went to the local station and asked the test operator what the test consists of. He said it is just an opacity test, and said it was that same limits for all diesels, wether commercial or private. He noticed I had a dodge and said, basically your truck gets the same opacity test as a dump truck, even if you (I) do smoke, you should pass as long as it isn't more than a commercial big rig.



He also said the first emissions test doesn't happen until after a few years of ownership of a (new) truck... I can't remember if he said it was 3yrs of 5yrs. I'll go back and find out.



My '00 is only 2-1/2 years old, so of course no testing yet. But my '95 is 7 years old, and it came from Utah when I bought it over a year ago, and it wasn't tested then. When the tab renewall came in Feburary it still had no testing required. I'm sure it will get it next Feb.
