I just bought a 06 2500 4X4 two days ago. I joined the TDR within an hour of getting it home! I have read the owners manual thouroghly and I can't figure out what the deal is with the "wait to start" light. It never comes on, not even for the lamp test. Should it? I went back to the dealer and talked to the service department and they said it will not come on in warm climents. Here in Charleston it is definitly a warm climent in June. BUT the owners manual said it should at least test with the oter lamps. Starts fine and I sure do love my new truck and hope for many happy years to come. 19. 5mpg and loving it. My 2 jeeps at half the tonnage can't get that.

Thanks, Rene

Welcome to the TDR. The wait to start light does not come on if the temp is above 55° or so. I'm not sure about lighting during the lamp test. The light does not actually say "wait to start". It looks like a curley-Q heating element.

Roger that, I even looked at it with a bright light to see if it was there, and it is. Just never lights, I hate it when the book says one thing and the real world does not comply. Thanks

Is this something new for '06? I live in Fl. and I don't care how hot it is, my WTS light comes on and does on every CTD I've ever seen.

Welcome to the real world! :-laf Also, welcome to the TDR! #ad

The light on my '03 comes on almost every time (I think. ) I only look for it if it is cold outside. If it is warm, I just ignore it and start up whether it is on or not.

Enjoy your truck, and don't sweat the small stuff.

I have an '06 4x4. On warm days the light doesn't come on at all. Also doesn't come on on cooler days if the engine is fully warmed.

I have the same problem with mine. I was kinda' looking forward to the light when I got my truck. Oh well, I guess I'll have to "wait" ;) to wait to start until it gets colder (i hope it works).

Carl, to answer your question... yes it new for the 06 models. My 05 lit every time like yours. Im not sure why they changed it, but they did.

My 2003 light came on every time. When I got the new one I actually thought the red security light (that comes on for a few seconds) was the new wait to start light.

I live just up I-26 from you and drive to Charleston all the time. It might be an 06 thing. I have an 05 and live off of exit 91 and can drive down there, be at a site for about 10 min. hop back in the truck and get the light and we now it is good and warm. And you know how hot it has been.

The 06' truck light won't light unless the engine is cold enough to make it light. If you don't see the light, then it is not cold enough.

I believe it ( the computer) actually takes a couple readings of ambient air temp at the intake, maybe the battery temp sensor. So the day could warm up above 55*, but if your a cold start under the hood it's less than 55*, it would come on. In my 04. 5, before and after I had the remote start installed it came on a lot. This '06 it hardly comes on at these springtime temps. You fellers in the South, w/an '06 should hardly see it. Brad

It's really funny, I've become so accustomed to waiting to start that even when I get in a gasser, I wait to start... . wife always tells me "Dakotas don't have diesels"..... I knew that.....

Not to hot today, but I have stoped looking for the light. Maybe this fall I'll see it.

Today it was the "out of Park" warning horn. I was backing up the align the trailer, in and out, to check how close, and the horn starts honking. I thought it was broken. Happened to me the other day as well. A quick reference the the owners manual solved it. Strange feature.

Rene

Yeah they did that to mine the other day. Scared the crap out of the wife when I was playing with it to see how it worked. She thought it was broke too.

I dunno,, seems to me that regardless of temp that light should illuminate during "Lamp Test". Books says so and also why would that one be different than the others.

Yeah, I also find myself waiting for the EGT'S to cool down in my wife's gasser. She always says come on let's go!!!
