Anyone use their filter #ST3976A? "synthetic fiber enhanced media" single pass efficiency 98% multi pass 99%. Any idea who makes it?

Unless it's made by FleetGuard, I wouldn't trust my $16k (or so) engine in order to save a few bux. Go online or try Geno's for OEM filters that won't clog your piston cooling nozzles and cause a NON-WARRANTEEABLE engine replacement.

I don't have time; have to leave on a trip to NC to pick up a horse. I put the filter in and will replace it with a Fleetguard when I get back.

Where do you guys get your Fleetguard filters locally?

I have always used Wix, and if I can't get Fleetguard locally I'll continue to do so.

You don't have a local Cummins store?

Lol, hell no. We had an International store but they went out of business. Kenworth is 35 miles away, not sure what they carry. Nothing with a Cummins logo out front for quite a distance.

Hope you get back OK! With all the stories about engine damage caused by material in aftermarket oil filters plugging oil galleries resulting in engine lock-up, it's not worth taking a chance. :(

Not trying to be a smart *****, just saying I would not consider even starting up my Cummins with one of the cheap filters on it. JMO.....

I make sure I keep a supply of Fleetguard Stratapore oil and fuel filters on hand at all times so I won't have this problem.

I am looking for somewhere to get the best deal on them to buy by the case as I will need some more soon. Anyone know of best deal around? I got last ones from Geno's.

3976A is also a FRAM part #!! Now everyone here knows better then to run one those filters, ( don't they?) I buy a dozen oil and fuel filters at a time from my Cummins store, have a special deal going where I get them at a very low cost ! :p And I always make sure I have a spare oil and a couple of fuel filters in the truck at all times.

I run that filter in my '93 and '04. 5 with Wally's synthetic oil at 15K intervals. I haven't had any bad experiences. The '93 has over 60K on it using Wally's filters and oils alone. And I don't baby my trucks. They haul from 2K-4. 5K bed weight and/or tow 15K regularly. They've towed cross country as well. Cummins had an issue with Fram filters years ago but since then it has been resolved. As for the oil... synthetic is synthetic... better than dino no matter what brand. The money I've been saving is used on steaks, premium beer and women :D And I personnally don't see that changing anytime soon :-laf

Now, if someone wants to pony up and buy me thier specific filters and oils, I'll gladly change. ;)

All the filter failures have been Frams. Wal mart uses Fram part numbers to make it convenient to catalog. There is NO similarity between the Fram filter and the SuperTech. Go to a Wal mart and see for yourself. They handle both. Your suggestion for keeping a suppky on board is a good one. I'm gonna do that!

I get my Fleetguard filters at a local International dealer. They are actually less expensive than Cummins but my main motivation is location and the fact the people at the parts counter treat me like I buy a few thousand dollars worth of parts a month. I did find a site that sells Fleetguard filters the other day and their prices seem to be inline with my IH dealer. Not sure if they whack you on shipping since I haven't purchased from them. May be able to help some of you guys that don't have a good local source, www.fleetguardfilters.com

Does anyone know who makes the Mopar oil filters??? That's what I have been using since I get an employees discount on them.

The Walmart SuperTech filters are a quality filter for an excellent price. Everytime I am in the States I pick up a bunch for every vehical I service, except my Dodge. I use nothing but Fleetgard for my Cummins.

Well, just keep voting the way you do and relying on that government job, a Cummins store will move in shortly :-laf

BTW, do you get paid to test the viscosity of ketchup?

I thought I already cleared up where my paycheck comes from, you must have missed it, but if you still have a problem with where I work, PM me and you can whine all you want off the board.

As to Champion Labs oil filters, they're actually good filters. Autozone sells them also under the STP brand name.

As mentioned the Super-Tech filter are a good quality filter and at a great price too. I would not hesitate to use one on the Cummins in a pinch, but the Fleetguards will still remain stocked on the shelf for me :)
